I have a his 7970 that is giving me artifacts after about half an hour of gaming for the past week.

It happens in various games- FSX, Skyrim, Project Cars, ARMA III.

My graphics card is not overclocked. It has been in the past though, but after a month or two of being stable at those clocks I got artifacts, so I have put it back to stock. This was maybe a month ago.

It runs at about 60 to 65c. Airflow is good in my case due to no HDD bays and a h100i not tanking up much room.

Should I RMA?*

Sounds like you should send it back, but RMA is a risk if the artifacts only appear after 30 minutes...? They might decide there is no problem and charge you a fee to send it back to you.

I had a similar problem with the exact same card, however, mine was giving me mostly desktop artifacts. Anyway, I took loads of pictures and videos in preparation to argue my case and it went through without any issues. It took over 3 weeks to get a new one though. :(

I don't as I am on my phone and haven't uploaded any to dropbox.

Sometimes it is a largeish square with black smaller squares inside, kind of like a chessboard but instead of white squares it shows The proper image. When I move the game camera, the black square stays in the same location relative to my monitor, as if it was an overlay.

I also get very large 'tears'- hard to explain but a particular texture or colour might sort of explode from its location on the screen to the edge in a large rectangle shape. When I move the camera, the tear stays in it'd relative location, as if it was meant to be part of the game environment.

Yes I have seen this happen in crysis 3 and batman ao. It's the only games where this has appeared but goes away when I lower the shading from ultra to high on crysis. It doesn't happen often. I saw it after about an 2 hours of play just to the left mid center of the screen. Very difficult to spot unless you have something with texture behind it.

I believe the cause in my case to be from driver crashes at other times without me restarting the pc. Only started happening from overclocking and bf4 as it's a mess right now causing regular driver crashes.

So whenever my card or games crash, I restart the pc and it hasn't happened again. I even left crysis 3 running all night 2 days ago to see if it was fixed. Checked in the morning and it was fine.

I didn't know that you are supposed to restart your pc when testing overclocks and getting driver crashes. I think I saw it in a thread on this forum somewhere.

Might not be the same for you but I thought that I should at least tell you my case.

Hope you sort it. :)

I'd try different drivers too I was getting bsods on the latest betas on a 6970 it's rock solid stable on 13.8 beta 2.

Here are some screens I managed to get:
