If the only option of a monitor is one with a G-Sync module already built in from Asus, you will be right but I bet money you can buy one without and all you AMD owners can find something else to whinge at Nvidia for.
I am all for new tech and if AMD developed it and it works as well as is being made out, I would be jumping on AMD cards. If more devs take up Mantle and it gives what some guys have touted (30% performance gains), I will be jumping on that. I don't see the point of berating something that isn't out yet because of 'just in case'.
Wait and see and stop getting so irate. It is ridicules to think that Asus will only make G-Sync models.
1) It's a rumor
2) If it's true it is a timed deal
3) other companies such as Viewsonic have confirmed they'll be supporting it
4) I don't care unless they bring out 2560x1440 IPS panels that support it
I didn't say "Asus will only make G-Sync models" i'm saying they will slap a significant premium on 'just them' to start with and then use that price point to creep up the rest of the line, the other brands will follow siut
See Apple, or Nvidia with a $1000 GPU, a fancy name, a good looking cooler and massive hype, the next thing you know their top end GPU's are up a couple of hundred quid from one generation to the next.
Yawn.
4) I don't care unless they bring out 2560x1440 IPS panels that support it
Spot on Dave.
So many people going off on one in the G-Sync threads and all on hearsay and rumor. After gaming side by side with a 1440P and a 120Hz monitor, the 1440P NEEDS this in my eyes but I do have the lightboost hack running on my Asus monitors.
Where have you got your info about Asus slapping a premium on these monitors? From my readings in the rumors of various sites, Nvidia will be aiming to get the module under $100 dollars.
Should Nvidia be paying Asus or whoever to put the tech in and give it away for free? Of course it will cost to put it in but I still can't fathom out where they will add a premium to monitors that don't have this in. If they did, consumers would go elsewhere, so that would be basic sales suicide.
Rather than criticising DM, may be you should question why is Nvidia keep doing things that make people hate them?I used to enjoy DM's reads but now it is just blatant hatred of Nvidia rants in thread after thread.
Not if you can make people think they are getting a bargain by paying more, surreal? yes, yet Nvidia have proved just how far that concept can be pushed, its marketing.

LOOOOOOOOOOL
Indeed, it may be timed but as Andy said above it is likely to be priced around similar monitors when it settles down. 3D Vision monitors don't have much price premium if any. Obviously the kit is expensive but that's a different point.

Its just another way to drive prices up
The fact that you have to buy a separate kit (which is expensive) is the reason the Monitor its self is not so expensive, the marketing is in that kit, not the screen.
Nvidia also have competition from AMD in 3D screens that are not locked to the specific hardware vendor.
And the glasses and 3D receiver are free to produce presumably? As well as the tech behind them?
I've got a pair of 3D glasses for my tele and they're similar quality to the nVidia ones. They cost around the same as well. I don't see the problem.

I mean I use to like Nvidia "hardware" because they are decent, but can't really say the same about the "company" itself with its business approach, particularly with their milking approach lately.
I miss the 2006 Nvidia...premium price for premium hardware that blows the competition away; fast forward to today now it's only about trying their best to provide the tinniest bit of performance edge over the competition and charge a premium for it (while hold performance in reserve)...and when the competition beat it, they drop the price of their fastest card, and release a "newer" card and put it right back up at the high price again. And this is not even including extorting additional money from the so called "extra features"
If a so-called G-sync chip or whatever it is called as added to the Asus SonicMaster MX299Q 21:9 monitor, I wonder how much increase in price would there be, because of the money that Asus has to pay Nvidia for the stupid chip.
I mean if I buy Nvidia graphic, I'd expect the features to be already included in what I already paid for...if not, at least at "reasonable" extra in cost. As it is, it is like some mmos with lots of things stripped-down, and expect people to spend stupid money in cashshop for the essential features.
At the moment, I'm considering getting getting a GTX780 and get a Asus monitors similar to the SonicMaster MX299Q with with G-sysc in the future...but I fear the price premium that would be on such a monitor![]()
So I should jump on the 'Nvidia charge too much money' bandwagon like a few in this and other Nvidia threads because you don't like Nvidia? It is the same rhetorical read from DM lately and nothing good comes from Nvidia in his eyes, even when the tech is clearly promising but I am not getting into a massive deabte with people claiming extortionate prices on other monitors because G-Sync is coming. Some people need to take a reality check, as it is painful reading some of the responses.
Why do you always protest when someone makes a criticism of Nvidia "it's because we don't like them"?
I think I will put what Marine-RX179 said in a slightly different way, maybe if Nvidia didn't constantly conduct themselves in ways that rubs people the wrong way then they wouldn't get so much criticism.
When do I keep saying that any criticism of Nvidia is because people don't like them? If you feel Nvidia will rip us off with monitors now, that is your choice but I will wait and see. You can drag this out with others Humbug, if you wish but I shan't bother responding to any more baiting posts.
My problem isn't with paying for a feature and the extra hardware needed for that feature, i'm one of those who has used the 3D TV glasses once for 5 minutes and then stuffed them in the "never used gimmick" draw. at least i got them free with the TV.
My problem is the way in which this new technology is brought to the market, exclusive proprietary, i think this and the marketing that will follow it will make it much more expensive than it otherwise would have been or needs to be, i'm arguing thats the whole point of doing it that way.
