OK, So I've lived in the USA for the last 10yrs, and truth be told, I've been more of a movie watcher than a series watcher... HOWEVER, all that has changed in the last yr..

I have subs to HBO & Showtime, both of which is OnDemand, so I have complete access to the backlog of all the series that they've ever run...

So far I've watched

Weeds
Californication
and I've just finished Breaking Bad, which is quite possible the best thing I've ever watched. Movies included.

I very much doubt I'll ever find another series that I'll ever enjoy as much as Breaking Bad, but that's not to say I won't enjoy others. Cos i really enjoyed Weeds and Californication.. Except they both started excellent, but eventually started going downhill.. Whereas, Breaking Bad, stayed brilliant all the way through, and for like 50hrs approx it really had me glued all the way to the explosive end.

So to all you US show veterans, what else is considered a must watch out there. Outside of the above.

The Wire,
Sons of Anarchy,
House of Cards,
Battlestar Galactica,
Ray Donovan.

Few series I've enjoyed over the last few months.

As above but include:
Longmire
Justified
Continuum
Fringe
White Collar
Leverage
It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia
Arrested Development
The Walking Dead
Deadwood
Bones
Modern Family
30 Rock
Dexter (first 4-6 seasons)
24
Angel
Buffy The Vampire Slayer
Babylon 5
Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
Curb Your Enthusiasm
Seinfeld

There's lots of recommendations but if you want something specific you need to pick a genre, I love Californication and Breaking Bad but they are complete opposites.

yes, i'm not a particular fan of vampires or sci fi as such... So stuff like Terminator or Buffy are an absolute no go... Just good solid real to life drama or comedy.

I think I'm going to give Lost a try next. Seeing that its on netflix which is a simpler method than OnDemand. I know it has a little sci-fi in it, and its about being stranded on a desert island, but that's all i know, but its supposed to be good.

Neither Weeds nor Californication would make my top 30. With that said, here are some of the must watch TV series from the past decade or two:

  • The Wire
  • The Sopranos
  • Deadwood
  • Band of Brothers
  • Firefly
  • Arrested Development
  • Boardwalk Empire
  • The West Wing
  • Battlestar Gallactica

And some British flavoured series:

  • Rome
  • Sherlock
  • Luther

Now, there are a number of others that could and should make the list, but I don't want to overwhelm you so I picked the definite must-watch series for you. I'd start with the ones with the lowest number of episodes first.

Lost is a decent series, it just ended badly but it's fun getting there.

For some serious stuff in the vein of an epic story like Breaking Bad I'd try The Wire or The Shield (both cop related shows but quite dark like Breaking Bad).

Some have been mentioned above but-
Sons of Anarchy
Ray Donovan
Fringe
Boardwalk Empire
Band of Brothers
White Collar
Leverage
Suits
Castle
Hannibal
Game of Thrones

If you enjoyed breaking bad then I think you'll like the wire. Brilliant show, imo the best ever.

Checked it out on IMDB, and i think we have a winner !!! :p

The Wire it is... HBO and only 5 seasons. So not too many to start to lose the plot.. Just the way it should be !

Good deal, thanks for bringing this to my attention..

Here have a cool smiley on me !

The Americans is really good.
