Million Mask March

c] where they're from [4chan {specifically /b/ (even though most of /b/ has now discontinued this rubbish)}]

I don't think the majority of them were even involved in it in the first place... most of the stuff that gets posted there isn't exactly the sort of thing you'd expect from left wing activists....

I still don't understand (having watched a few of the videos from the protests) why almost every protest in this country turns into an "attack the police" opportunity. Any help?

because just about any protest against govt policy or against large corporations/banks/'globalisation' will attrct a minority of hardcore left wing idiots who want to kick off against the police/break stuff and try to turn it into some form of riot

Peaceful protests don't get media attention, so you have to goad the police into hitting you.

It certainly did start there with chanology back in 2007/8 or whenever it was. But to use your wording, you're right, the majority were not involved. And as you got a lot of people supporting it, you also got a lot of people riling it. I'm sure the former went off to their own site to work out their gameplans, though I'm not sure exactly where that was.

Until the protestors begin to look like ********* it never gets media attention, media don't want to risk upsetting the status quo for their political overlords I'm afraid.

It's a vicious cycle, people have the willingness but not the intelligence nor the means to follow through with a revolution.

Public disorder/dissent is about the most the population will rise to until living standards take a notable dive.

Unfortunately or thankfully (pending on your view) - the current political class seem intent on doing this, but for any real change things need to get worse, or the public will need to get smarter first.

The public are subdued, with too many distractions (blaming brown people, immigrants) X-Factor & shiny new gizmo's to care about the outside world.

Do half of those people even know what they're protesting about? Seems like just an excuse to wear a mask to be anonymous and be a part of "something".

Instead why not combine collective efforts and actually make a change rather than make protest signs about it and wear a mask.

If you are really interested in change why hide behind a mask.

Although good way of making a lot of cash for the mask maker.

Wish I'd thought of that. ;)

exactly, just sheep with no lives who think it's cool

That's 'revolution' kiddies all over for you.

I had a gf at 17 and I remember her getting so angry and saying, "no-one does anything or fights for anything anymore.. I just need to protest... about something!!".

That's exactly it right there.

Students have a lot of free time these days.

I like the Japanese ones that were actually doing something useful though and cleaning up the streets as they went.

Mostly posh kids tweeting about how awful capitalism is on their five hundred quid mobile devices.

And adding to the gargantuan plastics mountain with those masks.

The only thing which bugs me is the second so many seem to land in a position of relative conform those rebellious tendencies die down to nothing.

Unenlightened self-interest doesn't impress me one bit.
