At your logic, yeah.
The 290 and R290X would have reviewed much better if they'd designed a better cooler.

I'm a fan of no camp but hardocp seems to be batting for the AMD camp recently, the majority of reviews show the 780ti faster than the 290x by 10% and more. Still I don't think it's worth any than £500, but we know how Nvidia like to price gouge, 780 is a good example.

3GB of VRAM for probably £500?
You've got to laugh.

Not really, when you can buy £200 cards with the same amount of VRAM...

Agree totally mate. I too was shocked at how well it overclocked.

I think if I was on air, I'd begrudgingly stump up for the 780ti.
It gets more complicated if you are looking to go water though, as the 290x is clearly held back by its God awful cooler, and you can buy the 290x+block for less than a 780ti.
AFAIK,AMD said it was a price thing, and is why the cheapest R9 290 cards are £310,and R9 290X cards dipped to as low as £390 at one point.
Some of the pre-overclocked GTX780 cards probably are within spitting distance of a reference GTX780TI anyway, especially with the GTX780 GHZ Edition SKU.
Hence,non-reference R9 290 and R9 290X cards are also going to be mighty interesting.
TBH,we have not seen this much battling of high end cards for a long time.
