SC Clearance

I know with some places you can with a basic BC(?) level check and depending on the information you need to access.

Seems I have to wait!

mine took about 9 months. (5 years ago)

yes, for anything less hidden a BC will be ok. (dont think i can say the levels....)

First time I went through SC, 4-5 months if I remember correctly. But only because the site I was doing it for had their own department for it if I remember correctly.

DV... Whole other story.

What sort of job is it that you would need it for, if you don't mind me asking? :)

I already had a security check, but then I got moved to CTD (counter terrorism) in the FCO. I was only an admin boy at the time, but I still needed to do electronic filing on the fortress computer system, which needed DV clearance.

6 weeks for the initial SC check then 4 weeks on renewal. Anyone unfortunate to have not had it but had a start date sat in reception reading manuals until it came through

If I remember rightly, though it was nearly 20 years ago, it was about 3 months for mine (DV) along with a lovely day long seminar about the ways in which they'd make my life a living hell if I broke the official secrets act.

Of course, it helped then that I was RN, and my parents were RAF.

I believe it's two long interviews now, going back 3 generations too.

Took around 3 months, but this was done through Defence Vetting team? So I expected it to take a little longer.

If you mean DV then that stands for Developed Vetting. CW jobs gives an outline of the various common security levels - I'm not going to vouch for the accuracy of all of it and I'd not suggest relying on it without corroboration but the information is there for whatever use you can make of it.

One of my mates, who is intellectual but no common sense, confessed in his DV interview to still smoking weed occasionally.

Rather than give him his DV, they stripped him of his security clearance. There were no jobs he could do in the FCO with a basic CTC, so he was disciplined and shipped off to DCMS. Fair do's to him though, he turned it round after a few years, got back in and is now a head of section. So didn't turn out too bad.

My SC took about 4-6 weeks from start of application to receiving it. I don't really have any financial background other than a student loan so it's fairly straight forward for me.
