Which card is the best?

I need some help deciding between both of these cards. Gonna buy one at the end of the month, it's still a fair chunk of money so I wanna spend it as wisely as possible..

Please help me decide which I should go for, will add pro's and cons for both cards. sensible ones only lol


Please bear in mind I am @ 1440P, and no intention of going to 4K for a few years yet :p

GTX 780ti

Pros:
Fastest stock performance compared to ref 290X
Physx
G-Sync
ShadowPlay




Cons:
Costs more but game bundle and cooler redeem this somewhat.



R9 290X

Pros:
Cheaper than GTX 780ti (but has inferior cooling).
Mantle
TrueAudio
4gb/512bit VRAM

Cons:
Loud, and hot running due to poor cooler.

In the UK the price is 600 for the 780ti, which should be sub 500 if they cost $600 and the 290x is 440 pounds.

I'd say get 2x290's to smash the 780ti. Non refernece 290's will probably compete against the ti if you can wait.
 
780ti for £550-600 vs 290X for £430-470 vs the 780 you already have for £0.

If value for money is your thing, I know which one I'd go for.

If not, the 780ti, when overclocked, will beat the 290X by a decent amount, plus it is cooler, quieter, and better looking.

Gregster if you would be so kind to provide cons of the 290X, and LtMatt could provide cons for the 780ti lol. Should be fun.. Will update OP. Let's settle this, which is best card overall?:p

I stick to talking about AMD cards Broom. :)
 
There does not appear any doubt that , if one ignores cost , the best today is the 780 Ti.

If you want to buy NOW , it has to be the 780.

BUT new coolers / new drivers / possible price drop who knows where we will be in a month or two 's time ?

Thanks Fulax, my 780 will be retired now, either sold on or given to family member. (Will add better OC performance to pro on 780)

I'm not overly worried about cost of either GPU, I'm only getting one, I'm not Kaapstad :p

I did some quick calculations.

Comparing cheapest cards,the GTX780TI has a 77% markup over the R9 290 and around a 31% to 57% markup over various GTX780 cards including the GHZ Edition ones.

JHH is probably laughing all the way to the bank this year as he gets another free Porsche.

If you're not worried about the price, I don't think there is any reason not to go for the 780ti if you're buying right now. As much as I want to love the underdog, and as much as I want to see what 3rd party coolers do to the 290X, the 780ti is the superior card.

Now, if you would care to adopt me I would be happy to take your unwanted 780. I'm sure I could squueze another in my rig somewhere.
