Either Gigabyte windforce GTX 780 for £390 or Gigabyte Reference GTX 780ti for £570 ~£180 difference~

Do you think the 780ti is worth the extra £180? also i currently run a 1680x1050 monitor but i'm holding on upgrading because i want to get a G-Sync monitor.

I have the money to spend on it but for me £570 is a hell of a lot of money for a gpu considering you can build a decent pc for around £600 :L Also i'm a 17yr old student with a part time job.

Get the Windforce 780, makes sense unless money is no object or you're seriously into benchmarking in which case get on of the overclocked 780Ti's (Classified or Lightning for example). Price gap between the two is huge.

thanks for your thoughts, but one last thing. Do you think i should grab a 780 windforce now at around £390 or do you think there might be a price drop around xmas? or are the prices going to stay around the same now that the 780ti has been released?

they might even go up depending on retailers, but yes could be lower, i think pretty impossible they will be under 350 - maybe close to that without the games

its hard to say its a bad deal right now

but then a 290pro with the games is a great deal to

Gibbo did say that he doesn't expect any more drops on the 780 but you never know.

@ the OP, I would jump on the 780 WF bud. Cracking card and great performance.

Would you say its worth hanging around to see what the 290x and 290 are like with af coolers or just forget about them and get the 780.

I would always wait for more options if you're not desperate. You don't want to be kicking yourself later for rushing into it.

The 290 is a cracking card but as is, I would want a better cooler or at least a quieter cooler. Not sure when parteners will be bringing them out but it was hinted at 6-8 weeks when the 290X was launched and will be the same for the 290 Pro.

I like the 290X as well but with the 780 being cheaper and free games, that to me wins that battle.

Bottom line is. If buying now, grab the 780 or if you are happy to wait, grab the 290 pro.

My thoughts on it anyway :)

is there a 290, 290 pro and 290x or is the 290 pro the same as the 290 ?

Would the 780ti be worth getting if i had the reference model and didn't put a water block on it? (everyone i've seen buying a reference is putting a waterblock on)

No, £150+ for better stock speed but more noise and less overclock potential which would lessen the performance difference.
