Looking to get a new monitor can anyone suggest me a decent one for this price range? I don't have the cash to spend on a 120hz+ monitor yet so figure a 75hz 1080p one would do me good till then.

mostly for games/films, not fussed about speakers as probably wouldn't use them anyway

thanks :)

edit: would http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-097-IY be alright? the girl kinda sells it :D

Looking at your rig, I would recommend to save a bit more and get a decent monitor later. Or simply increasing your budget now. You can't get good for cheap. And remember, the monitor will most likely be the longest lasting component in your build. You shouldn't skimp out on it, especially if you have already made a considerable investment to the rest of your rig.

Personally, I would recommend to use about third of your rig's budget on a monitor, preferably even more. Though I know most people won't invest that much.

edit, as for your linked monitor:
It's a TN panel monitor, thus I wouldn't personally recommend it.

TN is Twisted Nematic, they tend to have good refresh rates but poor washed out colours and poor viewing angles, well the ones on the lower end of the budget do.

Other popular panel types are IPS and VA.

Ok so not as good as it could be however, when compared to my LG flatron W1946 (1360x768) the one I linked is miles better correct? I will eventually get a 120/144hz screen and then I would have two screens :D

I can only work with the budget I have for now and desperately need a new screen, so anything upto £170ish(Revised budget as its only £20) that is decent for gaming would be great. Thanks for the recommendation about not using TN though!

Seeing as you've upped your budget to £170, how about the Asus VN248H, it's uses an IPS panel as opposed to a TN panel and the one review seems positive.

All looked good until I found some reviews online:
"ros: It's IPS.

Cons: Bad backlight bleed in the bottom left and right corners, about the size of your fist.

Awkward buttons behind the monitor.

Inputs are hard to reach.

The stand is awful. The bottom is nice but the arm is way too small for this monitor.

Other Thoughts: Vivid pixel is just a sharpening filter. At the default of 25 it's fine but anything higher makes text look bad so it's basically useless.

This is my first ASUS product and I expected better. The backlight bleed is a real shame. Every time the screen goes black I dart my eyes right at it and it gets more annoying every time.

If I could do it over I'd get the Dell IPS that is on sale for 145. The description of that on newegg doesn't state it's IPS but other websites do, as well as reviews. If they had a proper description for it I wouldn't have bought this in the first place.

My Hanns-G that I'm replacing lasted 3.5 years, on about 16 hours a day. It had a much better stand and even though it was a TN panel I honestly can't tell any difference aside from viewing angles. The colors don't seem any different"

Pros: Good Picture, Sound works thru HDMI, 2 HDMI and 1 VGA ports.

Cons: Stand is not too great but unit is wall/arm mountable. Control buttons are a little arkward to reach and they don't line up exactly behind thier icons.
The MAJOR fault I find with this unit is it WILL NOT AWAKEN from sleep mode when connected by HDMI.

Other Thoughts: I have tried everything to get this monitor to awaken from sleep mode when connected by HDMI and it WILL NOT AWAKEN!!!
I know it is not my setup on my computer because it works fine on two other HDMI monitors I have. I was going to buy 2 more of these but if I can't get it to awaken from sleep I will probaly return the one I have.
Shame. besides from this problem I really like this monitor.
Knocking off three eggs for doing basic awaken function on HDMI like my three other monitors. If it did awaken when on HDMI it would be a 4 or 5.

is this also a TN panel ? http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-071-IY cant find anything that says it is

I'd indeed wait and save to get a proper 120hz screen... if you can hold out without a new screen, you don't say what you are using right now could be so bad that you should just get something soon.

no such thing as 75hz no matter people say, 60, 120, 144

I had a viewsonic vx922 monitor that claimed it was 75hz and yeah it would do it but it was choppy as hell.
