Im confused 18 watchers and auction ends with no bids?

I'll watch some items just to see how much they go for to get an idea for the market.

I never understand why so many people bid on items way before the auction end, the "real action" normally starts in the last couple of minutes.

I usually watch a few items I'm interested in to see the going rate or have something to compare items later with. Did this recently with a Saitek X52, worked out well as I'd probably have paid over the odds for it if I hadn't.

I watch items in the hope that it will cause the seller to post a thread about it, which allows me to link their forum account to their Ebay account, thereby improving my stalking ability.

I just put in a max bid for whatever I'm willing to pay, if I win I win, if not, who cares. I just let eBay do the work, I don't buy into all this bid sniping nonsense.

I was selling a car recently, but had it up as a classified ad, just to see how it went. Had a dozen or so watchers by it sold. I was confused as to what they were watching, it wasn't an auction, it was a fixed price with a best offer.

No, when you put in your bid it then bids the minimum amount. If you use a sniper, it won't act until the last minute, thereby preventing the bids from escalating earlier in the auction, reducing the chance of the price increasing.

not familiar with the item you are selling. but if i sell some rare collectible item. usually a lot of watchers will wait until the last 30 seconds before the snipers make their move.

If I ever use ebay, I always start my auctions around 8pm on an evening. I think that is the time most people are not working and will be able to sniper bid, thus pushing the pricing up (dont set it for friday/saturday evening to end though)

A high starting price will put people off, as well as collection only. Living in N.I. I just skim past collection only adds as there is no feasible way for me to get the majority of the items. You will have the same problem only in reverse where people might consider collection up to 50-100 miles away if the item is worth it, but having to get a ferry or plane over here is a deal breaker.

Put it up lower with a reserve and add a shipping option and it should sell no problems. Nice amp by the way, if you want to give it away I will gladly collect it from you :P

as a seller, the auction fee is linked to start price. a lot of shops gets around this by slapping a huge shipping fee on top. this almost acts like a reserve but wittout being charge higher listing cost. (i havent sold anything on ebay for some time, so i cant say for sure this is still doable.)

That was limited by Ebay a while back to be honest, but it does depend on the product category you put it item into. Different ones, have different limits.

i watch things all the time even though i have no intention of buying. if something catches my eye i watch it to see the outcome.
