Samsung S3 - EE - People ring me, straight to answer phone

My phone doesn't seem to ring? When people call me it goes straight to answer phone, and after that I get a text saying I have a miss call, even though my phone never rang.

I tried calling myself using the work phone this morning and it is happening still.

Is this an issue with EE, my phone, or settings?

If you're only on GPRS this is fairly common with Orange's side of EE. It's to do with how 2G data services and 2G voice interact. If you have an active data session on 2G and then a call comes in the network for you, it will re-direct and send to VM. Other networks can interrupt the data session your phone has and send a special signal to say "drop that, take this call" but Orange never enabled this.

If it's not that then the network has got your profile bugged, rebooting the phone will fix it.

Then how am I supposed to receive calls?

Can I cancel my contract with them without paying because of this? Surely this makes my phone almost useless. Not being able to receive calls?

I had terrible reception with my galaxy note 2 and at first also thought it was due to ee having crappy reception. However, I tried my sim in other phones and they were able to pick up signal where my phone could not- I ended up sending the phone for repair and now I have much more reliable reception.

It's a bit of a weird issue as I did get reception outside but had a lot of dropped phonecalls and disconnects so at first thought it was a reception issue rather than a hardware fault

I get that all the time on my work phone..can be handy sometimes. Also have a section of my company on vodafone contracts who can't ring my phone.

This is a known EE problem. Just check their forums, hundreds of complaints about it, and it will happen on 3G too or 4G when it won't fall back to 3G. [/url]

I used to work for them and know a lot of the engineers who still work there, they say it's a known network fault like you say.

I get so much grief from friends and family that my phones always on voicemail. Which is irritating as hell because I get 4 bars all over my house.

Wow, surprised that was never sorted - must be a nightmare in these days of smartphones constantly using data. I remember it was bad enough when I had an XDA many moons ago and I'd miss occassional calls while browsing.

It's a known EE problem. My mate has disabled 4G, which solved the problem majority of the time. He just turns it on now when he needs the data speeds.

Yeah EE's response is normally drop back to 2G when you're having issues but then why pay for 3G or 4G if you can't use it.

In terms of my contract I got offered a 20% discount for life which I currently have (had a few more problems like also not being able to call out due to a dodgy tower in the area). If I keep having issues will complain again (don't get a huge amount of calls so don't notice it that often).
