780Ti official review thread

Those benches at the beginning has made the iChill look incredible, virtually the same performance for £110-£160 cheaper!
 
I also didn't mean it against you, I was just speaking generally as I see it a lot on here. It's used as often as the 290X cooler argument.
Yeah that's fair enough regarding the cooler, but looking at Techpowerup @ 2560x1600 there are barely 5-7 frames difference between most of the games - how can anyone say they could tell the difference?

They couldn't but benchmarks and graphs are used to enforce someone's stance towards either brand a lot of the time. We are getting towards such negligible differences now that the arguments just go on and on.

Interesting table turns.

You add volts to the Nvidia GPU and it will run at higher clocks, thats how GPU Boost 2 works, you increase the board power line or the volts, the thermal threshold and the GPU will overclock its self higher and higher and higher.

Its effectively overclocking. it will always run at the highest possible speed depending on how much power and temperature you allow it to have, that can be 1200Mhz / 1300 / 1400... most Titans actually run at 1100 untouched out of the box. the 780TI is no different.

I am putting 3 monitors on the wall and my battery in the drill has just died and typical me, I didn't bother charging the other up. Gotta wait about an hour now for the charge and for the Wife to help me attach the monitors to the mounts :(

GPU Boost 2.0 operates within set frequencies and voltage. I'm sure Greg will get Ile to type him up a more in depth reply, but overclocking involves going above and beyond manufacturers specs, and GPU Boost definitely does not do this.

Exactly Noxia. Its basically confirmation bias,where if you look for a graph to back up your POV you will find it,whatever you're POV.
 
Boost 2.0 explained :)

Basically, Boost 2.0 of the Titan works by determining what it can 'safely' boost to without compromising stability. If you leave it as it is, most will boost to around 950Mhz - 1000Mhz (iirc). This is done by thermal and power targets either in the drivers or in the hardware but I am inclined to go with hardware, as it can be overridden by BIOS flashing. If you raise the thermal limits, the GPU will boost to what that limit is set and the same with the power target. The downside to this is of course conservative stability. Nvidia certainaly don't want cards returned because they have set those limits too high and again, this is why the pathetic clocks of 1000Mhz are pretty much a max. The idea is superb for those who don't or can't be bothered to OC, as it gives them a free boost 'out the box' but it makes it hard to determine what the actual clocks are when overclocking, as they fluctuate the whole time.

Add +200 Mhz to the core and that will give you an overclock of around of 1150 - 1200Mhz, depending on what your card boosts to but because of the TDP and thermal targets, this will drop back and is very hard to maintain a constant clock. This is why I use a BIOS that has no boosting, as I like to watch my clocks sit at the desired clocks I set.

I hope this clears it up a little :)

I have seen Titans with a max OC of 1050Mhz (poor guy) and I have seen Titans with max OC of 1250Mhz (lucky punk) and this is on stock voltage. Once you pass the boost max, the overclocking you set takes over.

I would love to see where you got this magical figure of 1400Mhz?

In other news, I have now put all 3 of my screens on the wall and what a space saver, those Asus VG278H monitors have the biggest bases ever and need so much room.

Just thought I'd share my overclocking results for my reference Gigabyte 780ti (very early stages of overclocking, can squeeze more out of it)

Here are my results so far:

- Core offset +230 (1228-1236) Its hitting the power limit for the stock bios, that's why its fluctuating
- Memory offset +500 (2001mhz on the memory! Oh yes. I had to running for 1 and half runs on heaven at 2050! but crashed near the end of the 2nd run.)

Everything is done at stock volts. Power slider is maxed to 106%

Heaven 4.0 score is 1800 flat.

This card clocks like a beast. Can't wait to get it underwater and overvolt this.

I'm a very happy bunny :D
