Issue with my Panasonic 55" Plasma?

Hey all,

Been seeing this a lot recently on my tv and wondering if it's something that's normal and I should suck it up or it is a bit weird. Model in question is a txp55vt50 plasma. The only way I can describe it is people seem to get a bit see through if there is something with a straight line that is directly behind them. Say a white wall is behind a person, starts on the left, then the person, the reappears on the right. Well you can see the line of the wall continue through their body. Happens on credits as well. You'll see a weird ghosting band all across the screen and the credits will be in the middle.

I've put a video up from the football last night. If you look at the LED advertising board, as the player goes past it and across the purple board, the LED board seems to be still there on his right shoulder. You can see the squares of it (have to get past the flicker from the camera, sorry!)

Anyone make any sense of this? It's not all the time and generally when the item behind is quite bright but it's doing my head in!

It's due to all the motion processing algorithms. You probably have everything set to on.

What's happening is that the TV's processing circuitry is looking at the picture and attempting to predict what's likely to be happening in the next few frames from clues in the preceding frames. So those bright background lights; if you take the vectors and extrapolate the paths then the TV thinks there's a good chance that they'll be in the place where you're seeing the ghost images. If it wasn't for the player getting in the way then it's actually a correct prediction.

Most of what the TV is doing is clever guess work. But it's guesswork none the less. You can actually turn off a lot of this stuff because it simply adds noise to the image.

Not so sure myself. Someone on avforums suggested it's line bleed which makes sense. I have all the image proccesing stuff turned off for the most realistic picture I can get. Line bleed examples seem to compare to what I'm seeing so I'll just have to get used to it. Weird as I've had this tv a year now and never noticed before!

Well, you didn't say what you'd done with the settings so what kind of diagnosis were you expecting? If you want something more that the first most likely solution then you have to actually put in some detail about your settings, what you've done to diagnose and the information you've also found out for yourself  We aren't mind readers :D

Not really. Just think that if you go to all the trouble to take pictures and video then why not say "I've ruled out this because my setting are that" Just seems both logical and courteous to me, especially when asking the advice of others. Or is that too obvious?

Well to be honest I didn't even think that that could cause this issue. I had a feeling it was either a fault with the panel or something inherent to plasmas. I'm also so used to turning all the useless features off I forget they are there :p However, I really don't think there is any need to be so blunt and rude with me. I asked some advice, you wanted more details which I am happy to provide yet the way you went about it just smacks of rudeness. All you had to ask was do you have all the features on and I would have said nope, forgot to mention that. Now we are here swinging back and forth because you seem to have a chip on your shoulder.

Ah, more background info that you 'forgot' to mention. Meh, seems like you got your answer anyway. Not much more to add.

It's line bleed, it happens on credits all the time which is the most obvious. Plenty of YouTube videos showing it on panny plasma's.

This is why I also recommend that people check out Samsung plasmas because although they don't have as dark blacks they have far less issues with their panels.

It happens rarely though tbh and who watches credits anyway?

sure it wasn't IR? top right is where most logos are.

panel for panel samsung have far less issues than panasonic, you got unlucky, it happens.

no it was also going in other places apparently a bleed issue on some samsungs is common from what i searched.
