Lucky you, no Mondeo diesel I've driven has managed that. Even the more modern stuff mostly needs to be driven very sedately to manage it and once you start stopping and moving off again rather than just measuring your cruise mpg the average drops nicely.

I said on a run which to me means sitting on the motorway or A-Roads with the cruise on for a couple of hundred miles, if I drive like a granny from Scarborough to Worksop I can get the trip to read nearly 70mpg in the summer. when I worked in my previous job which was a "Worksop S80 - DN4 5PL" run if you want to google maps it then getting over 700 miles to a tank was easy, I think the best I managed over a tank was 740odd miles, that averages out at 54mpg over the tank as it's possible to squeeze 62 litres into it if you wait 'till you have 0 miles remaining, this quite obviously includes the odd beer run to the shop etc in that.

Anyway, this is a discussion for motors and I forgot to add in my last post that £80 for that journey is fine in my opinion.

According to the trip in 2012 I managed 67mpg driving like a granny in August. I know the trip aint 100% accurate but I'm more than happy to stick my phone cradle to my window and film my trip computer for you for two hours. In fact, if you wish next time you are in the area let me know and we can have a little bet if you have 2 hours free for a trip up the M1, easy money for you fox.

Wow your friend went out of his way by a lot and your want to pay him less then his fuel and the hours he put in plus not factoring the ware and tear on his car. I would hate to be your friend. I would always reward a friend for helping me out the best I could do, that wouldn't mean paying them taxi fair prices but the best I could do. 45p a mile is what I would go on.

My petrol Focus does 350miles per tank which is about £70 so chucking him an extra tenner on top of his fuel bill for driving over 300 miles is very reasonable.

For the record, I don't really charge for lifts myself, as people do the decent thing of paying petrol + some beer. I do the same for other people and the world goes round.
