How much should I pay mate for fuel?

I used to give someone lifts to work and someone else a lift to nightclass, I stopped when I finally noticed that they never once said thank you.
I wasn't bothered about the fuel, it was their basic ignorance that annoyed me (not that ever bothered to offer anything for the fuel either)

Gave 2 friends from Hereford to southampton, 38mph, I just called it an even £20 for each person.

It's great how you can always be relied upon to add some completely random and irrelevent information to a thread :D

What was the purpose of your post? It's missing enough information to be of any use at all for comparison purposes with the OP.

It's great how you can always be relied upon to quote me, no matter what thread. :D

Op this is now how you go about things when you're... Just waiting for a mate.

OP is sounding very tight.

If you do not own a vehicle, you have no idea of the costs of running it and the costs of the time on your (driver) mate.

Being an arranged driver can be stressful as you have fixed times to RV at a set location. Consider that, the amount of day they've sacrificed for you, the costs on vehicular wear & tear (tyres, engine, oil, brakes, drive-train) and the fuel. Not forgeting if they have a limited mileage policy on their vehicle too, or even a restricted mileage insurance policy too. They've used some of their quota for you.

Don't be greedy.

I had a thread on this a while ago, it seems that this forum is full of pussys that never bother to give any hikers a lift.

Good man, enjoy the karma.

Seems a bit harsh not to give someone a lift! I grew up with it being normal so maybe I just haven't thought it out.

I'm always slightly cautious about giving women a lift judging by some of the horror stories, but so far my faith in humans hasn't been impinged. :)

Get 5 crisp £20 notes ready and be grateful you have a friend who'll do a 320 mile trip for you.

And get the beers in.

Best advice on the thread. Works out at giving your mate 32 pence a mile for his time and effort and petrol costs. Hardly unreasonable.

Most pertinant point is having someone who is willing to even do that for you!

Live on a different planet to most it seems.

Tbh any mate of mine wouldn't have to ask, id be thinking f'me 320 miles, thats one big favour im asking.

Before anyone could say anything, id be asking how much you want for it. Been there done that with all kind of things.

Funny thing is, im that guy that allways says , nahh don't worry about it when it's roles reversed..:)

I've given mates lifts to airports before, and done it for free. However, they've then returned the favour for me, also for free.

Personally, I think you'd be dreaming to get a private hire taxi for sub £100 all in both ways, and I'd imagine, even if there was a direct rail route to try and avoid the inconvenience, you'd not have much change from £100 either return unless you booked decades in advance.

You did well, I'd have got the beers in though.

I hope you friend sees this thread, you'll no doubt feel embarrassed and rightly so.

A return 30 mile journey to stansted cost me £100 this week in a taxi. £80 return is extremely reasonable.

My mate picked my mate up from Stansted Airport (with me in the car) and drove us back home. So 2x return trips from mine to Standsted airport.

Total of both trips together comes roughly to 320 miles...

He wants £80????

Forgive me, but £40 tops in my mind...

Thoughts?

"He wants", sorry but you should be offering. Your friend isn't a taxi driver.
