2004 BMW e60?

Jaguar have a massive problem with the gearbox due to the software on it. Problems although not unknown are pretty rare on BMWs using this gearbox. It is still one of the best autoboxes out there, saying it's stupendously unreliable is stupid. As are the comments about the electrical systems they are really reliable, it's just when they do go wrong it costs an arm and a leg to fix if it needs programming.

ZF boxes are very good and solid. They're aren't the most reliable things but are very very very far from being unreliable.

Usually it's just a very minor issues that causes the box to be a complete issue. An issue in the valve body, a poor quality seal in the torque converter etc.

Yes there is an issue for the 2-1 issue with these boxes on the rewind when coming to a halt however this was sorted for BMW under software updates which is free. It should be the same case for Jag.

My 2006 525d pre LCI has been awesome. I had the idrive updated by the dealer while sorting an issue with comfort access under warranty. Has pro sat nav.

Been a tremendous car with no issues. Only 70k but seems solid and handles well on msport suspension. I want a new 535d touring but this just keeps running beautifully so can't justify it.

Have we not found the wonders of google search yet? The issue is NOT fixed by a software update, its a fallacy and Jaguar and BMW have washed their hands of it. If you dont take my word for it, then speak to a reputable auto box specialist like I did who described the 6hp19 as the reason he can go on so many holidays. Just typing in e60 gearbox reveal page after page of people with problems lol.

As regards electrical issues, do you actually own an e60? Are you just trolling? Seriously. Opinions based on fact are what has been asked for, not opinions pulled from thin air.

I don't know how people can spend thousands on something that doesn't interest them and this end of the market is just not exciting me.

The 330D is an outstanding deal, I'd have thought the depreciation over 2 years would be more? What ever I get I'd be putting away £300 a month towards replacing it, and then adding a bit more on top of that (probably similar to the deposit required for the first month) to get that slightly better car.

Dandle owned a pre LCI E61 for a number of years before he wisely threw it away and replaced it with a far superior F11 :p

LCI actually ;) and had it for 5 years. I also have a fairly extensive knowledge of the electrical system on it.

I owned an E90 with the ZF 6 and sufferd the downshift issue.

My issue was completely solved by the software upgrade that went out.

I blame most failures on lack of or shall I say non existent servicing of the valve body and fluid changes.
