NVIDIA Shows-Off G-SYNC Technology on Starcraft at BlizzCon 2013

Need a 30" (2560 x 1600) G-Sync enabled monitor at a sensible price bracket for this to pay dividends as a stop gap before 4K.

It would be good to see this tech as an optional upgrade going forwards but in all honesty I can't see this being adopted quickly by gamers who probably have a 24" display already.

I think gamers at higher resolution i.e 1440P / 4K resolution where G-Sync will be more useful. As so much performance / power is needed to push all those pixels, so lower fps are to be expected G-sync can make anything over 30fps fluid, so for those pushing high res it would be very nice. Proper gamers on 1080P screens likely never see drops below 60fps anyway so G-Sync won't appeal to those type of gamers.. 4K + G-Sync could be very useful in the early stages. When GPU's become so powerful that 4K is easy, than brute force will keep fps over 60fps anyway, but up until that point I can see G-Sync and 4K being very useful def has a market.

Surely it works at both ends of the scale?

Smoother frames at high resolution but also smoothing out the nasty tears when a GPU is massively outperforming the monitor refresh rate.

cant set fps limit when you have lots of them to spare.
never a fan of adding costs to hardware when the benefit might be situational at best.

Assuming I can resist the advances of that foul temptress, the 780ti HOF, a monitor will be my next upgrade.

Is there any word on 1440p G-sync monitors? All I've heard about is that ASUS 144mhz one.

well i thought the vid was pants, erm, erm, erm, great showcase Nvidia

and why would you ask if its gonna be implemented for TV?? i thought that a signal from a broadcast, dvd player etc were constant so there would be no need for this tech.

I have seen several videos now and the pictures don't "speak for themselves" (as per blokey in Blizz video), I think you have to see it for yourself in person.

I think we will be reliant on word-of-mouth to find out if the price premium is worth it.

Assume he was getting at consoles with that line of questioning but probably didn't realise what he was asking.

i.e. "Are you going to bring this technology to TV and help your mortal enemies who provide all the chips in the next gen of consoles?"

Tecnically Fulax didn't say IPS but I assume he may have meant that :p

G-Sync, 1440p, IPS, low input lag / latency, 120Hz+ refresh = 12 months at least.

I gave up waiting or expecting a 1200p+ 120hz IPS or PVA monitor to get released a long long time ago ...
About 6 to 7 years I bought my first 24" PVA 60hz monitor (dell 2405)

And now 6 to 7 years later and there still no 120hz ones available ..:(

I don't see the point of buying into this early. For me the demo was very underwhelming, but maybe that's just because you need to see it in person. Wondering if many people would have been able to guess which was which had they taken the g-sync sign away. For sure, the tech was clearer on the pendulum demo, but on SC I was hard pushed to tell.

Coupled with Asus having exclusive use for 12 months, and the type of panels it's being showcased for, I can't see 1440p IPS g-sync displays at a decent price for another 12-18 months.

Right now, I'd be choosing Mantle over this given the choice.

The normal and g-sync monitors gave identical crap FPS with visible jerkiness. Before anyone says you have to experience it to understand that's BS as far as I'm concerned because when that guy said "silky smooth experience", I was think is that it, that looks like crap. If videos are unable to show how it works Nvidia wouldn't be showcasing it on videos. Totally unimpressed so far.

If I had a game that was running 30 FPS I would lower settings or buy a more powerful GPU.

I am a fan of anything that can give a smoother game play experience and I would jump at this for my 1440P monitor if it became available. I love the colour but hate with a passion the tearing and having to use V-Sync.
