hey guys, i just finished putting my new rig together, and i plug the power cable in to boot it for the first time and a big spark came from the power supply and refuses to turn on, whats the chances its taken the whole lot with it or will it probably just be the power supply gone, haven't had this happen before so im a bit lost on what to do now :/

im suprised that model failed

upto you whether to go for the same brand or not, could have just been plain faulty, best to rma it for another then take it from there

I don't think it has, they are designed not to when they fail but cant rule it out completely, you might need to remove the cmos battery for a few minutes before you power it on with new psu

Did you use the supplied screws that came with the psu to mount it? Haven't over-screwed anything that maybe touching something inside the psu?

I had a similar situation when I used the wrong screw thinking it would be fine but it went bang cos it shorted out on the longer screw which was touching one of the components inside.

Luckily nothing was damaged other than the dead psu.

yeah make sure there's no shorts anywhere and if its a modular/semi modular psu make sure you plug all the power cable plugs in the correct sockets on the psu

same goes for the motherboard

yea, i used all the screws that came with it, nothing done 2 tight, it just went pop, ive never rma'd anything before, how long does it usually take to get things sorted?

Theres a good chance your PC will be ok, decent quality PSUs tend not to kill components when they die. My brothers XFX 650w died in the same way and the pc was fine afterwards.
