Morning folks,

due to my difficulty in obtaining an iso for the above using the methods mentioned elsewhere has anyone uploaded a reliable copy of the iso anywhere which I can download?
I've seen some online but I'm a little afraid I'll download a dodgy copy with a virus or something.

Any help much appreciated :)

Yeah just adding on to what Halfmad says, if you have an 8 key you can't use it on the 8.1 image you need to install 8 and then install the update from the store.

Am I right in thinking you can install it via a placeholder key and then change to your legit key once it's installed?

Yup so my original question still stands lol, does anyone have a reliable link to the 8.1 pro 64bit iso?

Yes, you can, or at least you could the last time I did it (about three weeks ago) - I did a clean install to a blank HDD, entered the temporary key when setup asked for it (my existing Win8 key wouldn't work at this point, as already mentioned), then changed back to the purchased Win8 key when I was done. The temporary keys are as follows:

Core: 334NH-RXG76-64THK-C7CKG-D3VPT
Professional: XHQ8N-C3MCJ-RQXB6-WCHYG-C9WKB

BTW, if you're still having trouble sourcing the ISOs themselves, post back and I'll PM you a link - you can verify them against the checksums at MSDN if you want to be extra sure: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/subscriptions/downloads/

edit: just emailed you in trust :)

Can you post the link up here, wouldn't mind it as well :)

I have also been looking for a trusted ISO but my normal guys have not done a copy of Windows 8.1 :(, link would be appreciated

I'm using my own Mega account; I'd rather not post the link publicly. I've emailed you in trust though.

You can find links to all the Windows 8 ISOs at My Digital Life (you'll need a torrent client capable of handling magnet links). They were actually leaked in August, but they're bit-for-bit identical to the "official" MSDN ISOs released on 17th October (only the file names are different).

edit: @Thrust4Money, enable your trust and I'll email you the link as well if you want. You can get it at MDL as I said though, it's just a bit more faff. :)

Last Q from me, how do you change the key once you've instslled with the placeholder key :)

Method 1

Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and then tap Search. Or, if you are using a mouse, point to the lower-right corner of the screen, and then click Search.
In the search box, type Slui.exe 0x3.
Tap or click the Slui.exe 0x3 icon.
Type your product key in the Windows Activation window, and then click Activate.

Method 2

Run the following command at an elevated command prompt:
Cscript.exe %windir%\system32\slmgr.vbs /ipk <Your product key>
Note You can also use the Volume Activation Management Tool (VAMT) 3.0 to change the product key remotely, or if you want to change the product key on multiple computers.
