Hi I had a car accident which was non-fault about 7 months ago. The 3rd party insurance company has admitted liability and there was no serious injuries. Now i have a law firm/solictors calling to say that I can claim money for discomfort and loss of earning etc as there was damage of over £400 and the accident was non fault on my part. As the 3rd insurer has had to put aside a pot of money for this claim for upto 36 months. What is this all about.. and do many people claim for this?

i haven't claimed on it.. just enquiring why this is there.. i know that the law firm is just chasing to make money for themselves. If i was going to claim for loss of earning or injuries i would have already done so through my original claim going through my insurer.
Just seems stupid thats all..

Are you even sure that this is directly related to the accident?

There seem to be lot of companies who spam out calls/texts saying that they know you've recently been involved in an accident and that you could be due ££££'s!

They just hope that if you have had an accident, then you'll think it's worth finding out more. They just play a percentages game and know that a certain number of people will have been involved in accidents in the last 12 months and so if they send out enough spam, then eventually they'll get a few bites.

I had the exact same thing about 2 months ago. I had an accident last year, non fault, no claims on injury...then out of the blue some guy calls me up saying the insurance companies have a "pot" of money set aside from the claim and that if I don;t then the company will re-absorb the money and that they would much prefer me to have the money than it go back to the corporation...

I ofcourse was very skeptical about the whole thing and asked them more questions but they couldn't tell me when my accident was or even which vehicle it was is! they said it was a ford escort....not had one for 7 years so that was bogus....his excuse was I may have searched for a quote on a price comparison site for a ford escort and since I would admit there was a claim in the past 3 years they got my information to contact me from there.

I then went on to say i didn't claim for injury because well... I wasn't injured, my back was a bit sore for like 2 days but that's nothing, I could have just slept awkwardly haha! but the guy was very pressuring and persistent.

In the end I said I'd think about it and phone back later (because he had kept me on the phone eating into my lunch hour). later that day I got 2 more calls from the same number which I ignored as I was still working. then the next day I had about 3 calls, then about 1 or 2 every day for the next week. TAKE A HINT!!! :p

what mad me uncomfortable was it was apparently very easy all I had to do was take 10 mins of my time to give them all the details of the crash and a verbal confirmation I wanted to go ahead...and they the vast majority don't even need you to go into court.

even said to him I'm not happen about it because it because of things like this that is probably putting mine and everyone elses insurances up but he said "noooo this doesn't affect that".....yea... ok..

:p they finally stopped calling about 3-4 weeks later xD

I'm pretty sure that most of these calls are nothing to do with an accident you may have had and simply call out the blue on the off chance you have to prey on the fact you might have.

I get these calls and haven't had an accident or made any claims so politely tell them to bog off......but I wonder what percentage of the population have actually had an accident and instantly think these people are talking about that particular incident?

that's why one of the first things I asked was could he tell me about the accident and what car it was in....where he then didn't know anything and told me a ford escort :p that just sent alarm bells ringing...and hence me never answering the phone to them again :)

My wife has had calls from parasites such as these. They informed her that due to an accident she has had within the past two years she can claim compensation. Firstly, she can't drive, secondly she has never been in a accident. Something needs to be done about these companies.

It has been known for other companies and even the police to sell accident info to these ambulance chasers.

I was involved in an at fault accident and paid for the other guys repairs myself, but notified mu insurers of the incident in accordance with the policy terms but 'forgot' to provide the third parties details. They wanted some external company to investigate who kept ringing me but I suspected they'd just try and screw whoever was at fault, in this case me.

I just kept stalling until renewal and got my insurers to close the claim off as notification only, but I wonder if that would have been the case if this external company got hold of the 3rd parties details.
