I am looking to build my first PC, it will be used as a general family computer, internet, word, facebook etc, no full retail games would get played on it.

Budget is quite low, around £250, £300 with a Windows8.
----------------------------------------------------------------
This is what i was thinking so far,

Motherboard ASRock H77 Pro4-M Intel H77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Micro ATX Motherboard £67.99

Intel Pentium G3220 3.0GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail £47.99

Corsair Builder Series CX 430W V2 '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply (CP-9020046-UK) £39.95

Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 500GB SATA 6Gb/s 16MB Cache - OEM (ST500DM002) HDD £35.99

BitFenix Merc Beta Gaming Case - Black £32.99

Corsair Value 4GB (1x4GB) DDR3 PC3-10666C9 1333MHz Single Channel Kit (CMV4GX3M1A1333C9) £31.99

Asus 24x DVD±RW DRW-24B5ST SATA ReWriter - Black (Retail) £23.99

Total : £294.98 in VAT

I just noticed its a micro atx Mobo, i'd want a full size one instead.
What could/should be changed?

There's a 60GB SSD there to install Windows and programs on. Use the hard drive for files and music etc.
Could upgrade to 8GB of RAM as soon as you can, hence just 1 stick (to leave room for an upgrade).

I've just noticed that in your build, the CPU and motherboard are incompatible as they are different socket types.

Thank you guys very much i don't think i would have noticed the incompatibility between the mobo and cpu myself..

Is installing the OS to a SSD really much better that a HDD compared to the price difference?

edit: and what is the B grade thing? cheaper but refurbished?

edit2: and i assume x2 2gb dual channel is better than a x1 4gp single channel?

Dual Channel is better than Single Channel yes.

B Grade are clearance items, however they may be missing accessories, game vouchers and other promotional items. But all come with a 90 day warranty.

Thanks digitalx! I didn't think to look in the clearance section before coming up with the list in my first post, the list that Idleman has posted looks rather good for what i'm looking for, i can add windows8 to that if i'll need it by the time i actually commit to anything and still be around my budget mark.

Honestly, I would rather go for a single channel stick of 4GB, because then it leaves room to upgrade to 8GB, which would then run in dual channel mode.
An SSD makes everything load so much faster. For example, on a normal hard drive it can take up to a minute to boot into windows, whereas an SSD takes up to 10 seconds. SSD's also don't degrade as much as hard drives. If you don't think it will be worth it, then don't bother with it :)

hmm, well as i said this isn't for gaming, but i'll keep that in mind for when i upgrade/replace my own computer .

edit: i came up with another list;

SSD makes a huge difference! If it will fit in the budget then you should go for it. Can I just clarify something, do you need Windows 8 included in the budget?

Stay away from that PSU.
Spend more and get a decent one, one that won't unexpectedly blow up ;)
As I've already said, go for one stick of 4GB RAM now. It then leaves you room to ugprade to 8GB in the near-future.

Could you recommend a PSU in the clearence section lukieboy, or is the one you posted near top of thread the ideal one? I'll swap for a single 4gb stick.

@Rhyswh, i'm not sure about the os requierment yet, i'll have to ask who i'm getting this information for, I'll stick to a hdd for now, and once all the other parts are definitive i'll see if i can get one in budget.

There is nothing suitable in the Clearance section, Psu wise. The OCZ CoreXtreme, I specced is more than suitable for your needs. Come to think of it, so is the rest of the spec, which offers better graphics than the Intel chip.

I heard OCZ might be going under so it might be an idea to stay away from them incase something goes wrong with the PSU. Not entirely sure if this is true though.
