I'm 5'10 ride a 54 and it's an excellent fit. Cervelo's geo is based all around stack and reach.

So reckon Im between a 48 and 51 then (only 5ft 6 ish here) ... will try and scount one out to try before going for the 51. have a feeling a 48 would be better although may look a bit silly

so guys any advice on what to do with my bike?

alu frame
carbon fork
fine wheelset
just the groupo is a turd..

should I buy a new groupo or get a new bike? the only thing I don't like about current bike is mudguard clearance(none) the rest I love..

Hit me. Can start from either Manchester (or Chapel-enLe-Frith) or Sheffield, or maybe Chesterfield.

Heck I'll be driving up so can start anywhere :p.

This is the 100 mile route from Chapel from the Peak Punisher this year and that includes Winnats. Winnats hits after 149km...

The 100km doesn't include Winnats but still has some leg burners

If the bike fits you well, then I see no reason not to sling a 105/veloce level group at it. I'd not go any higher though...

it shouldn't fit me.. its 57/58 frame and I'm 5'9ish closer to 5'10.. but I find it comfy :o I do have long arms tho so the reach is not a problem.

I was thinking that.. but a full 105 groupo is around 350-400.. I'd love campognolo tho! or SRAM.. hmm need to do more research

You ride the bike, not the fitting manual

it might be worth changing the stem and seatpost etc, they are generally really heavy on a cheap bike

was thinking of something along the lines of tiagra + new seat post/stem.. I quite like the current bars so I don't really see any reason to switch from them to another alloy set.

how much of an upgrade would an older style(with thumb shifters) sora groupo to tiagra(latest one) be? would I actually see any difference shifting wise?

also what is a comparable groupo from SRAM/Campy that sits at the level of tiagra/105 :o

What's your budget?

around 400-450 is what I'd like to spend upgrading it.

Tbh I think the only thing you'd really notice would be not having thumb shifters. One step up (maybe 1.5 steps since its an older sora?) probably isn't enough. If I were upgrading from sora I'd be looking at 105 in order for it to be a worthwhile upgrade.

In the process of putting chromoplastics on my triban 5 atm, needs bending/fiddling with as the bit where you bolt the rear mudguard behind the chainrings between the chainstays is not as wide as the mudguard - so when I bolt it in it causes it to bend inwards hitting the tyre, grrr

Uh quite happy to say I would not be able to do that.

Doing the South Downs off road with that elevation over 100 miles was tough enough, and that was up down so at least you got a rest in along the way.

Got my SKS raceblade XLs fitted today, very very simple, and great spray protection, will stop me getting a wet behind on the commute, also just went through the 5000 mile mark for the year this evening, thats over double the target I had set myself, so pretty chuffed. Shall see how many I manage to do by year end!

Found out today my jersey's look like a parachute on me, lost 1 stone since I was last on the bike and lost 2 stone since I bought them so not surprising really.

I have a merino base layer and a soft shell, and I'll be wearing bib shorts + tights. Do people wear jerseys under a softshell?

Not sure whether to get another jersey now or whether I'll be ok without one and then buy one when it starts warming up and might have lost more weight.

edit: how does paypal get hold of the money? If by direct debit or credit card then that would potentially provide other means of retrieving the money. Though could then cause issues with your paypal account.

Yep, I wear a baselayer and Jersey under my softshell in this weather. It's also handy to keep phone etc in the Jersey pocket underneath so it gets a little more protection from the weather.
