*** The Official Playstation 4 (PS4) Thread ***

I know the PS4 uses laptop hard drives but whats to stop us from using sata/power extension cables and using a standard one? Certainly be cheaper.

It'd look a bit unsightly as the whole right hand side cover comes off when replacing HDD. It's not a little bay like on the PS3.

what HDD are people looking to replace the stock one with, looking to upgrade(1.5+) early save doing it later

think theres been a doubt over 1.5+ i read somewhere....

Lot i'm looking from are:

Seagate Momentus XT 1Tb models
or there's also a Toshiba 1Tb (all SSHD's of course! :) ) until samsung/seagate release their 2Tb models - but not sure of compat there.

big thread on it on neogaf - i think if you are on the same local network, or indeed make a direct connection to the ps4 from the vita its going to be an amazing experience. I don't think it will really handle out in about unless you are connected to a strong wi fi, and your home internet has a great upload speed

considering the expected life of the ps4 / vita systems tho, that will improve as internet connections improve

should i have gotten an update email from shopto about them still aiming for getting my console to me on the 29th? i pre-ordered the killzone pack (not a mega bundle) about a month ago but i've noticed other posters say they have now changed it to 'guarenteed for christmas'?

i haven't received any update on whether mine is still scheduled for release day and i plan on taking the 29th off and i'll be ****ed if i lose a days work and it doesn't turn up.

I decided to cancel my shop to xbox one order and just stick with my amazon ps4 pre order - I am slightly more trusting of amazon to be honest.

Great video here from the TGS - not sure if it has been posted but really opens your eyes to how well the vita and streaming can work on the playstation 4 platform. I am sure sales of Vita are going to rocket

Pretty good idea

I would use remote play when my gf wants to watch tv so via local betwork or plugged in directly would be great if possible, i dont see this working over wifi (away from home)

Already confirmed that it works this way and also works from anywhere with wireless access (PS4 - Home Router - Internet - Another Router - Vita) as long as connection is good at both sides

Hang on, why are people changing the HDD already?

I need answers please:

1 - Whats wrong with the standard PS4 HDD?
2 - Will putting in a SSD make it even faster like a PC?
3 - How does the PS4 know about the new HDD? Surely I need some software to install on there?
4 - Anything im missing here!

Also can you flog the standard PS4 drive?

1. It's 500GB, and with game installs coming in at around 50GB people are expecting it to fill up quickly.
2. SSD will make it faster but by how much we don't know, it's also only SATA-II so will be held back slightly by that.
3. Same as with PS3, it should set everything up for you
4. Nope!

7 Big little details about the PS4:

#1 - Party Chat works across entire system and all apps, 8 people per lobby, but you can make MORE THAN ONE LOBBY!

#2 – Broadcasting is fast and easy, with “adorable PlayStation-themed standby screen”. Standby screen is activated on screen whenever you switch from game to PS4 OS. During OS browsing, “On Air” indicator is present on the screen.

#3 – Double-tap PSButton to multitask to any app that was last active. Single press gets you back to the OS.

#4 – Play as a guest on another console does not carry on all system settings like on Xbone, but when you log out from guest console, all personal data (credit card info)is permanently deleted from that console.

#5 – Trophy screen shows PS4/PS3/Vita data, but now each trophy shows how rare it is (how many people managed to unlock them)

#6 – “The PlayStation Store is actually organized”

#7 - You can power USB devices while the console is off

Hmm it works is vague, i just cant see it being playable over wireless. Depends whats ment by a good connection too, we will see. But for my uses i only need it to work at home so fingers crossed. Im skeptical as remote play has been mentioned and promised before
