BMW and M Power Owners

Question, why is BMW warranty absolutely essential?

Say a 58plate 335i, what mountain bills can be thrown up? Ignore silly BMW labour prices.

Took a punt and bought a new cam sensor ( intake I think, vanos feed side of the engine), I had planned to do the oil filter housing gasket today but the bits haven't arrived so took the chance to change the sensor this morning. Big improvement on the hesitation I had, still a tiny bit there but its much improved to the point where its barely noticeable now.

Car feels a bit smoother now too, bonus. Oddly though I seemed to acquire a vanos feeder leak at the banjo bolt. Given I never touched it I'm a bit unsure how, only thing I can think of is I maybe disturbed it when removing the solenoid. Nipped it up a bit and it seems fine now

Our estate was also like an ice rink this morning, to the point where I got out and checked one of the rears wasnt flat the dsc was cutting in so much - much low speed fun was had on the way back in

The internet is littered with tales of insurers refusing to authorise OEM marked glass on cars older than 3 or 4 years old. Not sure how I managed it last time but obviously after the farce that was the last fitting I'm not going to use the same firm again, leaving Auto Windscreens who I don't think will offer OEM marked glass :(

All sounds rather annoying :( any difference between them or literally just the roundel?

Heads up gents, Costco are doing Castrol Edge 5w30/5w40 for £24 for 4l, and Magnatec 5w30 for £18.25.

Bought a few litres of Edge to keep me going through my next 3 services.

My missus declared on Saturday that she was too scared to drive our MCS anymore.

Apparently it gets hilariously out of shape when pushed in the wet, so despite me telling her to "then slow down dumb ass" she flat out refused to drive it any more.

So yesterday I took it back to the dealership and swapped it for the least threatening car I could find.

A 61plate 118d Urban, we are picking it up next weekend.

All I have to say about it is, it's got nice wheels.

Most importantly - is your life now going to be significantly easier? If so its worth every penny. We won't go down the actual logic of ditching a small fwd hatch for a rwd one etc....

Bizarre decision, less than 24 hours of thinking and into a car that isn't going to change what she complained about.

You'll be back in the same situation shortly.

The Mini is a far more neutral handling car than the 1 Series, IMHO (to be honest neither are exactly lairy, but assuming you hit the limits, you are more likely to get a 1 series out of shape).

Women eh?

Shes normally quite good, but I think this time she just wanted a new car and knew I would say no if she came out and just asked for it.

Its a nice enough car in all honesty, its got parking sensors, driver pack, comfort pack, the sun pack (tinted windows?) different alloys etc.

Just means I have to wait another year for a Porsche.

And I'm back in the room, X plate 318i SE, £800, its a saloon not an estate but no great shakes, no performance but what can you do eh...
Got the diamond shaped key that I need to fix as the remote CL doesnt work, found a few threads in the interwebs about how to reprogram keys so might just buy a blank, get it cut and have a play..

Would have been cheaper and easier to just replace the tyres surely

So you took back a 528i because it had some faults and instead bought a 318i that... has some faults? Not really sure I understand :p

I don't really think £800 is a very sensible BMW budget unless you are a DIY/BMW enthusiast which given how quickly you got shot of the 528i for want of some minor attention it doesnt seem you are.

£800 is the sort of money where it's best to buy something dependable like a Honda Civic.

Its got no power and I've got the key in bits now to change the battery, hardly faults :P
Other than that its got 11months MOT had half a tank of fuel in it and has just been serviced as the guy wasn't planning on getting rid, it was a private sale rather than a trader as the guys a friend of a friend, it was advertised elsewhere for £1000 but he let me have it for £800..

The 528 was literally ****ing oil out of the cam cover, the ABS/TC light was coming on whenever it felt like it, as I've said before, it could have turned into an expencive purchase, so rather than take the chance it went back..
The 318 drives well and other than no power (All of my cars in the last 10+ years have been turbo'd awd toys, even the 528 was sub 200bhp :/ ) and no remote CL, hardly an issue...
