Should e-cigarettes be banned from public places?

Sure they might not look like cigarettes but you can still see the likeness when someone is holding it like a cigarette and puffing on it incessantly.

By not restricting there use in public, regardless of a lack of health concern, we risk normalizing this image of using eCigarettes, when really it should only be seen as a safer of two evils for people with an outstanding nicotine addiction.

I'm all for greater regulation on there use, and especially restriction on advertising and on all these paraphernalia shops I see popping up everywhere.
I'm in two minds, but I think I lean largely towards the notion that people can do whatever the hell they want to themselves, as long as it actually is only to themselves. If it's proven that the effects from Vaping/ECigs/whatever they are can actually be harmful to others than yes we should be looking at banning it in the same way ciggarettes are.

My company hasn't made any policy on it yet, but to be honest someone sitting at their desk puffing away would seem unprofessional to me.

I agree that it would look unprofessional and on that basis I would not want my employees doing it while visible to customers however in the break rooms or outside in public i have no problem what so ever.

This is as everyone says all down to the person who owns the premesis.

However, sometimes people take advantage of this and occasionally members of the public have been smoking regular cigarettes indoors and are told to promptly leave. That means that for every person with an e-cig they have to be checked to see that it's actually am e-cig they're smoking and not a real one.

Jesus christ.....what is it with the ban everything brigade.

It's not a problem.....why ban it? Just 'cos you can if you moan enough? What are your reasons? People see other peoples addiction and may copy? I could think of a million and one more pertinent things to ban for that reason.
One of them being TV, the whole of society mimics the dumb crap that comes out of it.

The reason in the quote is just as silly, there is a massive difference between real fags and E-cigs, where are these places where people are that simple they can't tell the difference and deal with it appropriately? If you have to stop someone to check if whats in their hand is electronic or not then god help ya.

Stop eroding peoples personal freedoms (Not directed at you Lysander, just my over arching point here)

Whilst the health implications are still not clear, it seems like they have less of a negative impact on overall health than people with a coffee addiction, and better VFM than Starbucks to boot.

so it's been proved e cigs harm no one around them?
don't see too much harm in them then

but it could lead young un's to take up smoking i agree, if these were being smoked everywhere

do you have to be 18 to buy them?

Well given the choice, new starters would opt for e-cigs, as pretty much no new smoker likes the taste or smell, it usually starts as a peer-pressure type thing.

Are we really that ****ing retarded that we can't make our own decisions and have to be legislated at because we cannot be trusted to make the right decisions?

Simple answer? Yes.

I hate smoking. Real or otherwise. Anything that makes it appear acceptable to smoke, even fake fags, should be banned. Ban cigarettes. Make smoking illegal. Anyone that smokes is a weak minded moron. There is nothing positive to be said about smoking.

He would disagree.

so it's been proved e cigs harm no one around them? No, they've not been around long enough for any real research it's just assumptions made based on what we already know about the chemicals in them

I don't necessarily think normalising vaping is the worst thing in the world. It means instead of smoking, people will vape. Even if people who don't vape decide to vape, they will do less harm to themselves than if they smoked. They can even choose zero Nic liquids to remain addiction-free if they so desire.

Obviously, the ideal is that people don't feel the need to smoke or vape, but sometimes you need a vice. Whether it's caffeine, nicotine, or jerking it to anime.

Do I condone children vaping? No. Are they smart enough to get around the same regulations that are supposed to stop them smoking and drinking? Clearly they are. So we may as well just educate them on the purpose of ecigs, the dangers of concentrated nicotine liquids, and why they should avoid both vaping and smoking if they can and get it done with.

Better than having to watch her light up all the time though surely?

I think that she should go outside if she really needs to 'smoke', and shouldn't be doing it at the table.

She's going to Las Vegas with my girlfriend in a fortnight, and I think she thinks that she can smoke the e-cigarette on the plane. I imagine she'll be disappointed.

I wouldn't vape in a restaurant to be fair. I think there is a certain etiquette to it. You don't vape in front of clients, in meetings, or where people are eating. It's just common sense. If you wouldn't fart there, don't vape there.

I agree very much with this idea of if you wouldn't fart, don't vape!

Let's just ban everything...that'll save us having to listen to all the idiots endlessly prattling on about whatever it is they want banned next for whatever flimsy subjective reason.

What, so everyone who drinks alcohol is addicted to it? People who go to pubs and bars are generally not alcoholics. Whereas most people [99% I would imagine] who smoke are addicted.

What is the problem with addiction if it causes no harm? Should train spotters be banned from railway stations, they have an addiction of sorts?

As mentioned above, caffeine is the most addicted to drug in the world with 90% of the world's population hooked on it (and not even knowing). Why isn't that a problem? Because it doesn't cause harm, and nor do e-cigarettes.
