About five days in and I'm starting to get the hang of things. I hated the Marder 2 so switched to the US TD line. Absolutely loving the M8A1 at the moment. Tiny little fella!

I like the Alecto too, but it's just too vulnerable at the moment. My stress reliever is my Cruiser III British light tank: sit back and snipe, or scoot in and harass the enemy's artillery.

I still need to figure out where I'm going for a good first medium tank and a good first heavy. Suggestions welcome!

Try this to cure crash at battle end, worked for me and lots of others:

game folder/res_mods/8.9/gui/flash

and remove or rename file Application.swf

Had loads of crashes tonight, been fine before, tried that^^ but made no difference :(
Think its time to reinstall and find which mod is causing this

The Russian Heavy line is good, KV-1, KV-1s, IS etc...
Also it makes a big difference when your crew gets higher trained.
If its possible, train a new crew to 75%, it costs 20k per crew member,
When you die early, watch some of the better players, you can learn a lot from this.

when you get really good scores, like that mastery badge is really good, it is VERY satisfying.

If your looking a good heavy line, Russians are easy mode, best to start with as they are really fun to play and don't take a lot to learn how to play well, medium wise. I like the M4 sherman, which leads to the easy 8 and M4 jumbo, however it means you have to endure the m3 lee. the german mediums are good too, the vk 30.01 p is probably my best tank, first 100% crew i ever got aswell as first time i got damage over 1000 and 2000 in a single match.

And....it has happened again, 1 minute into the game, i look at the map and Oh look, what have the team done.

Not surprisingly we lost, i survived to the end to die to 4 KV-1S's and a hellcat

You see the kind of lemming games like the one above all too often.

I think that 'doing the right thing' here is not necessarily to advance solo (unless scouting for arty for eg.). What I would have done if I saw the map above is to hang back at D9 and provide spotting for the TDs on the ridge in A6/A7.

Yes most maps have a preferred approach - but you have to adapt what you do to what your team does. There is no point in pushing a flank solo when you will get met by 3 tanks and get in a 3 on 1 which will only end one way.

I did hang back, after i saw what they were doing, and did end up spotting a few tanks, but after their lemming train failed and the score was something like 13 7 and i was left alone i then got 4v1'd and died in about 2 seconds. I didnt want to leave the flank open, so i did defend it to the best of my ability in my KV-1s in the hope that the team would break through at the top left, however they didnt, they all died even though there were 13 of them.

I think the biggest issue with lemming trains isnt that people all go the same way, but that they dont push and use the numbers advantage. The tactic can work and it does in company battles but people just sit. I think no one wants to make the first move and take the shots so everyone camps.

Link, Defrag and myself were in a game yesterday on Fjords where most of the team went south. Defrag was in an E100 and I was in a Maus. I reckon we could have easily defended that alone but instead most of our team went there and then camped...

yes this is pretty much what happened, they camp, the enemy takes shots when they can and 4-5 enemy tanks defend and kill 10 of our teams tanks while the others push up one side where there is no defense. It frustrating because once it happens, you know its gg, you might as well quit

Too true... I was playing Lakeville last night and 14 players went town and still didn't push hard... Fortunately, an OP T29 was sat in the valley and schooled 5 tanks (No arty!..)... Nevertheless, they only pushed once I'd manged to wipe out one side and push into base....

PS. One of my very limited wins yesterday due to a constant supply of utterly moronic planks...

More often then not, I feel the best tactic with lemming trains is to just join them...

I find that when the team leaves to lemming train and camp, i might as well try and save the game, find a good spot and hold the side for as long as possible and hope they push.

Speaking of the t29, i am like 13,300 xp off unlocking it, hopefully going to have the credits to buy it by the end of tonight. :D:D:D

Its not always bad. Quite often when there is a lemming train the enemy piles in for easy kills leaving a flank open. So I and usually the other two semi-decent players fly down the empty flank, cap and win.

Had it happen a few times so its worth just going for it but you cant do it on your own you need at least 2/3 for a quick cap.

As for the T29 I found unlocking it is not enough you need to grind out the top gun and turret etc for it to be truly rewarding.

Nice, well done! :)

To echo what jcol has already said, I'd go for the KV-1 as a first heavy then pick one of those lines, ending in either the IS7, or the IS4.

Medium-wise I'd actually recommend going either German (E50M) or American (M48A1) more than the Russians, I tend to perform better in those tanks and generally the grinds are better. The Leopard 1 is also very good, but not as welcoming as a first tier 10 medium, same goes for it's line.

For TDs, I'd suggest either Brits or Germans. Either line for the Germans will do, but depends on your play style. If you want a very good gun but not much staying power go for the new line, otherwise go for the old line (which includes the awesome Jagdtiger).
