Should e-cigarettes be banned from public places?

Simple answer? Yes.

I hate smoking. Real or otherwise. Anything that makes it appear acceptable to smoke, even fake fags, should be banned. Ban cigarettes. Make smoking illegal. Anyone that smokes is a weak minded moron. There is nothing positive to be said about smoking.

People enjoy it.

Jesus. Whatever happened to live and let live? :/

You realise what a raving lunatic weirdo you sound like, right?

Can we also ban people for breathing in air??

Might as well add that to the list if we are going to ban everything and anything.

Luckily for me my boss doesnt have an issue with me vaping at the office as it keeps me at my desk rather having to take the elevator down and have a smelly fag in this cold dreary weather.

Obviously i dont vape when we have clients come in but ive had a few clients ask me what that nice looking thing is on my desk ie my mini provari and protank...they find it interesting and have managed to kit out a few of them with starter kits.

No they bloody well shouldn't. All that comes out is vapour. You have worse coming out of your backside when you pass wind!! E-cigs have the potential to save thousands of lives a year and banning them in public places could push some people back onto cigarettes again. The reason being that if they can't use them then they may as well go back to ciggies. My wife swapped to e-cigs back in May and hasn't touched a proper ciggy since. In that time her breathing has cleared up to the point that she no longer needs medication (she was on inhalers before), no more wheezing, snoring, smelling like a ashtray and kissing her is a pleasant experience again.

was the original smoking ban not based on the fire hazard rather than the health risks? i'm sure I heard that somewhere

and define 'public places', do you mean indoors except private abodes like the real smoking ban?

as for being a gateway I find that ridiculous, if you're a non smoker who has no intention of becoming a real smoker you sure ain't gonna take up e cigs. mostly it's smokers who use it as an alternative to quitting that doesn't involve the pain, or simply to extend their lifespan a middle. besides whilst we're on the subject of banning things that are addictive and could 'potentially be a gateway' we should ban people eating in public too, after all that's how food addictions start.....

either way I doubt it'll happen, if the government wanted to ban real cigs they'd have increased the buying age by at least a year every year and cut it off at a generation, they make too much money to kill it completely.

vaping seems to be noticeably gaining in popularity over the past 3 months. at the train station every morning id say its about 40% vapers, 60% smokers now, compared to 20% vapers 3 months ago. my work is about to put a ban on vaping inside and I think thats fair, it was only brought about by 1 person who saw fit to do it in the breakout room. the rest go outside and vape and enjoy the paid 10 minutes off work! no need to ban in public.

What I've noticed is that the people who use the e-cigs seem to be 'smoking' them every few minutes whilst in the office, where as before it'd be one proper cig every few hours or if they wished to full 'advantage' of smoke breaks every hour.

I asked one why they seem to be on that more then proper ones and answer was hardly any nicotine in this so got to use it a lot more to get my fix, surely the whole idea behind them is to quit smoking not just substitute the nicotine fix.

No the idea is to be able to enjoy nicotine without the health implications that comes with smoking. Contrary to public brainwashing message, there is nothing wrong with liking nicotine and nothing wrong with being "addicted" to something until that enjoyment/addiction becomes dangerous (as it is with cigarettes and burning tobacco).

Whilst it is true that cigarettes are still the best way to deliver nicotine economically, people can easily 'up' their juice content if they don't feel they are getting enough nicotine from their current juice.

In my experience (vaper of over 2 years now) the over-use at first is mainly novelty. You do it because you can and it's new. I vape in my office but now the vaping novelty has worn off I probably take 10 inhalations all day, I certainly don't vape anywhere near as much as my work's heavier smokers smoke (some of whom can be seen out in the smoking bay every 40 minutes) but in the early days I was a chain vaper like you describe.

I'm in 2 minds.

1) They don't smell ergo it won't contaminate my food, or clothing or cause an unpleasant odour to be around, therefore it shouldn't be an issue.

2) It sets a precedent or an acceptability to smoking, and normalises smoking as an acceptable thing again which is something that is trying to be stopped.

I'm also in 2 minds about banning smoking in the first place, I think it's unfair to chastise people who choose what they want to do, but at the same time subjecting others to it is unfair as is putting the strain on the health service to treat those that cannot control themselves. Furthermore they are expensive so can leave some people out of pocket - which is again something to consider.

She's going to Las Vegas with my girlfriend in a fortnight, and I think she thinks that she can smoke the e-cigarette on the plane. I imagine she'll be disappointed.
I almost guarantee she won't be, they usually sell them on board.

I don't think they should be banned at all. much better alternative to a regular cigarette!

Fair enough if people have their own rules in their buildings etc... but having a general ban on them would just force more people to smoke regular cigarettes.

Agreed,

Id rather have 10 people smoking e-cigs inside than 1 person smoking a real one...
