Do you think its worth part ex-ing my 2003 E46 320D sport to a newer model?

You seem to have posted 3 cars. One for £11k, one for £16k and this for £21k.

Whats your actual budget for a new car?

I can get an 11K one now. But I'm thinking if I keep the E46 for a couple more years tart it up I could save a bit more cash for an F30

Can someone answer this please?

Is the 318D sport a lot less of a car than the 320D sport F30?

What's the major difference between the E90 and F30?

It is the same car with the same engine in a lower power form.

Do note that an F30 Sport is not the same as your E46 Sport was. Your E46 Sport was the top trim level with bodykit, etc etc. The F30 Sport isn't like this, the equivilent of your E46 Sport is the F30 M Sport.

They are completely different cars on different platforms.

Thanks for the info Foxy, In terms of MPG is the 318 better? Or would you avoid it?

The MPG is very likely as near as makes no difference the same.

Only pick a 318d if it is usefully cheaper than a 320d or if it allows you to buy a much higher specification car.

Also, make sure you chose an Automatic F30. The 8 speed autobox is absolutely fantastic and makes the drive so much better than the frustrating experience a 2 litre diesel with a manual gearbox can often be.

Go drive one.

On paper it'll be more economical, in real life I doubt there's much/anything in it. If you're happy enough with a 320d at present then you may well be happy enough with a 318d, but it really is pretty much bottom of the barrel stuff in engine terms, especially for the kind of money you'll need to pay for one.

Then again it would be easy to move on and if you don't hang on to it for too long it could lose a relatively small amount of money

Yeah...I have the auto now I would definetly want an Auto in the future does the M sport have toggle switches for Steptronic?

Paddles come when you specify Sports Auto Transmission. It is a £150 option above the regilar Auto Transmission. Some people tick it, some don't. If paddles are important to you, look for a car with that option.

Not sure if your thinking of keeping the e46 nor doing the rust yourself or not, but, if you are, this months Car Mechanics Magazine has a step by step wing removal & rust repair article on their project e46 320d...

Just been reading it in Tesco - it made me think of this thread! :)

Good call...I'll grab a copy in my lunch break tomo

Been thinking...I need a car to pick my daughter up from Manchester every other weekend. A round trip of 540 miles. So 1080 miles per month. The rest of the time the car is sat idle as I ride my motorbike to work. I may use the car the odd time if the weather is really icy but that's about it. My car usage has reduced since getting my motorbike.

I'm starting to think with Tax and insurance cost's and service costs and maintenance cost's I have a lot of money just sat there slowly rotting on the drive.

Thoughts?

Afternoon easy,

thanks for the images supplied. Looking at the rear arches we wouldn’t really get involved with them. The only real way to cure perforation is to cut it out and weld in fresh metal. The cost to replace the front wings if you supplied them would be £608.64inc.

:(

Contact either a crash repair place or a restoration place - the arches are nothing scary compared to damaged or classic cars.

Took my car this afternoon to a bodywork place.

The guy had a look and quoted me £450 to fit and respray to new wings and sort the rear arches out. I supply the wings.

He said he would have to spray both sides of the car including the doors.

Now that I have new tyres and have had a full four wheel allignment done the car is driving great. I didn't think I would notice but its amazing.

That is incredibly cheap for the work, make sure that they are going to cut out and weld in new repair sections on the rear wings, instead of just filling it with filler.

As above that's almost suspiciously low. You're talking minimum 120 a panel and if he is talking about doing the doors ( which makes sense given the colour ) you are getting 6 panels done....that's before cutting out and welding new section in.
