Having seen the poor scores for PS4 games...

That money can now be used for a nice graphics card.
I have just ordered a 1440p monitor which will be with me next month from a work thing.

I have a 7970+7950 crossfired. Should I go CF 290 Pro, or for avoidance of microstutter etc, just get a 780ti? My mobo only supports CF so wouldn't be able to go SLI for a while. What kind of perfomance boost will I see upgrading to 290pro CF ? Or.. would you stay put for a while, wait for the third party coolers to come in, and then make a decision. I am so

There is no such thing as microstutter since at least Catalyst 13.8. And always affected lower powered cards. (7770 for example)

And not only AMD. Nvidia has same issues on low powered SLI.

I believe you use Catalyst 13.11b9.2 yes? The CF improvement over the last WHQL drivers is HUGE (only 20% over last update), and fixes for BF4.
Since Beta 13.9, every update gave a good % cumulative on CF.

But if you want new card, sell the 7950 and get a 7990. And go Tri CF setup.

A stock 7990 is faster than an overclocked 780ti to boot at anything but Metro at x1600. Where they are in par.

Ofc you can always get a 290X/780ti but is downgrade to your CF solution.

A console is a long term investment not a machine for launch day games. Just think a PS4 will last you 5+ years.

I would stick with what you have, its a good setup.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

I am rather tempted by the tri-fire route.. It might be overkill for 1440p?

The 7990 is at some tasty prices.. I just wish the coolers looked a bit nicer :P
Will I need a larger PSU? I have 750W Bronze atm. LtMatt has convinced me that the 7990 is a good way to go :P as I have a spare 7970 would be the perfect bundle. And as you say I could move my 7950 on. I've not seen micro stutter since 13.11 v9.2 but just worried the odd game won't support CF - ala COD, but I guess COD is awful anyway heh.

What is the perfomance lead of the 290x over the 7970 ghz?

I could sell my 7970 and 7950 and use the funds along with the PS4 money and geta 290x CF.. wonder if those boys would make my Corsair 500R an oven :p

I had considered that....

£599 for the 780ti Ghz edn.. gosh.
£1200 for two cards, and then £170 for a mobo..

Yep selling body is the only way lol..

Crikey.. looked at the benchmarks for 290x CF.
I can see that a 7990 is still putting up a good fight against them..

So I assume a Tri-fire rig will be far better than a 290x in CF.

If I do cancel my ps4 pre-order... Its looking like I will have to.. not buying a console to play one game! I am going to pick up a 7990 and a 1200w PSU.

Are there any particular models of the 7990 worth considering?
