Advice needed on NVIDIA card purchase

No real proof as of yet, but agree that he should wait. AMD new series of GPU's could be amazing or a utter fail. Just have to wait and see. Not long to wait...

I have a strange feeling I'm going to be selling my 3 1/2 month old 780 pretty soon for the new AMD flagship single GPU.

I highly doubt it will murder a 780, will most likely be faster yes but these 780's have been out nearly half a year now so it's not like it will be a shock.

I have a strange feeling you won't want to. If half the rumours are true about the specs, doing the sums the new AMD card could be 5% to 10% slower than a GTX 780.

it sounds like the new cards will be 28nm, so I would not expect much difference than nvidia's cards right now.
best wait till nvidia's next gen or buy 2 gtx 680

I doubt it tbh. 8 pack seems to know something and has been giving us snippets since Titan released. I would be shocked if its slower than a gtx780 especially with the amount of time amd are taking to release it.

8 Pack has to remain impartial with things like this. People tend to read what they want into his posts.

Look how the 4960X and 4930k turned out, on water absolute stinkers but on LN2 absolutely fantastic.

My hand is slightly being forced, I'm forced to use my old card (NVIDIA GTX 275) because my 7970 isn't working right. So ideally I'd like to order a card in the next week or so. Getting paid on the 15th. To be honest, I'm leaning towards the GIGABYTE 780 over the MSI, but I'm still not totally sure. I've been reading reviews all day. Cheers for all the feedback lads!

He was being impartial but he was hinting at Titans performance not being all that great in comparison way before the gtx780 was released. Price was probably a factor in his comments but there was hints to say performance on the amd card was good.

Yes this is another good example of what I am saying, if you treat a Titan and a 780 lightning or Classified the same the Titan retains it 7% to 10% lead. By that I mean overvolt them and use a custom bios (just check out what Gregster, Whyscotty and Khemist have managed).

Having said that 8 Pack has had spectacular success with a GTX 780 and LN2 but for normal use 24/7 it is not an option.

No I have the standard one with the reference cooler purely for aesthetic reasons. It can bench at 1300mhz, but day to day I run it at a more modest 1150mhz.

They are very powerful cards and for normal use it is not really needed to overclock them, I also really like the Titan coolers on them and felt really sad when I put waterblocks on mine.

Yeah but I don't run SLI so overclocking helps in things like Metro Last Light. But I mostly play Dota 2 and Star Conflict and it doesn't break a sweat there :) Get a steady 200fps in SC

Thanks for all your helpful replies.

So I took the advice most of you gave me (to wait, trust me, it was hard).

It seems from reading reviews that it's between the 780TI or a R9 290. To be honest, I'm a little bit sick of ATI/AMD, so I would probably be leaning more towards getting a NVIDIA card.

My current system is:
Intel Core i7-3770K
Samsung SSD 840 250GB
Gigabyte Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition
ASUS P8Z77-V Deluxe
8GB-Kit Corsair Dominator Platinum
Corsair Enthusiast Series TX850 V2

I'm ready to swap out the 7970 and sell it on to lessen the price I have to pay for a (probable) 780TI.

At this stage, I seem fairly set on getting a 780TI. But I'm completely out of touch with Graphics cards and I need some advice on a few things, and it's important I get it right, because this will be a big purchase.

I see prices differing between £550 and £650. What's the main differences and which card would suit me most? I mostly prefer to have a high frame rate in games, I don't really care about overclocking other than what I can do through drivers.

When new cards like this come out, usually it takes a few months for modifications to come out with custom heatsinks etc, should I wait for these or are there already cards available with optimal heatsinks?

Also, a lot of the cards are down as for pre-order only, when will these become available, roughly?

Would my system compliment this card or would it be bottlenecked?

Thanks in advance
