Renewed my insurance last month, after doing some quotes online with my real details, I added a mod to see what the price hike would be, price was decent, so I phoned them to negotiate the renewal price, spoke about the mod, as I didn't actually have the mod installed, I asked the guy to remove it as he said if you declare it then it is expected to be on your car...

...all is well fast forward few weeks and I get a letter saying they checked their system and there is a discrepancy regarding a mod so they wanna charge extra, however I don't have the mod and don't plan on getting it either, they were told and noted, phone them up but the relevant dept is closed.

Anyone ever had this problem with Admiral? What are the chances of them charging me admin fees to rectify again even though its a problem they caused?

I've heard this a lot with a few companies, I would just keep fighting it and if they don't give up then threaten them with the ombudsman.

They will ring me tomorrow so will use that if they refuse. To be honest the charge they want isn't much, most of it is admin fees no doubt, but what is ridiculous is that they would think I wouldn't declare something when the mod actually only added £5 to my policy, now they are forcing a declaration on my policy when I don't even have the mod thus possibly making my policy invalid. What a joke, hopefully my insurance should come down next year so I might jump ship to another insurer.

I think I will next time, especially since the owners club have a deal with them. Only reason I go with Admiral group is cos I can't be bothered to shop around beyond the comparison websites and they are always double cheaper than others.

Bell took £250 from my bank account with no notification after I ran a dummy quote on a theoretical car purchase through their website, but got the dates of a previous accident wrong.

They linked the quote to my account, assumed the accident was something I had failed to inform the off, amended my policy and charged my bank account the additional premium and admin fee without so much as picking up the phone or sending me a letter.

I had to phone up and speak to 3 people and a manager for them to a) admit they screwed up, and b) agree to refund me. The first response I got amounted to little more than "tough".

I'd be getting charged all sorts if they went on my dummy quotes.

Thankfully I run them under james brown with named drivers called asda price or boaby sands.

Also use a different number house on the same postcode.

I took out a policy with admiral a few years and renewed a few months ago. The other day I go on the website, because I want to change my car + reg. charged me £270 extra and after ringing them the guy said there was nothing he could as the change in policy had already gone ahead.

Checked my docs earlier and admiral have changed my excess without my request or telling me...it was £150 compulsory + 350 voluntary = £500 total. And now, according to the new docks the compulsory has increased to £350 so the total excess would be £700!

I didn't even know the compulsory excess could change, just from changing car???? Or have admiral messed up big time? :o

This is what I do too to avoid this joke of a situation.

As do I now. Not only was I a bit confused as to how they could link it all together to end up changing my policy, but how can they do that without telling anyone. I only found out as I looked at my bank balance and was suddenly in my overdraft.

Oh yeah, they refused to compensate me my overdraft fee too.

Needless to say I'm not with them any more.

^ Only reason why I don't do qoutes iwth fake details is cos it doesnt always give accurate prices.

Anyway they rang me back and went through it and I told them I don't have the mod, he checked the systems for notes, and surprise surprise there is a note saying I don't have the mod. Why they couldn't check that in the first place I'll never know, will need to keep an eye on the bank balance in case they sneak out some admin fees.

OP, I had the same with Admiral. I got a quote for a sports exhaust.

Then a month later, they said I had a sports exhaust. I hadn't.

They then wanted me to go to a garage to get it verified that I didn't have a sports exhaust.

After a few more phone calls, a picture of my standard exhaust via email sufficed.

I'm imagining there is someone out there called Asda Price and he has sky high premiums.

Admiral did the opposite to me, they didn't renew my policy and I was driving for 8 days uninsured until they sorted out their error lol
