Does anyone here work in recruitment?

Also is it common to not hear anything back for weeks at a time after a CV has been submitted to a company via the recruiter?

To answer the OP: yes and yes. They're much lower because nobody recruits in December, but we still have targets.

Yup they're scum bags, up there with lawyers and estate agents.

This.

There's the odd good ones that are really worth their while and are a definite help, but a lot seem to have the "throw **** at the wall and see what sticks" mentality.

I got out a few months back but yes we had targets every month.

Also yes some companies are terrible at reviewing CVs. My biggest client used to often come back to a CV 2 months after being submitted saying they are perfect and would like to interview, and always be frustrated that the candidate has already moved.

I was merely interested in targets, because recently I've been getting more offers recently and it's getting a little annoying. One even had the cheek to call my office and ask to be put through to me stating it was 'a private call'.

^ I've had that numerous times.

I've had an increase in recruiters contacting me too. The usual spiel being 'I've got a position available local to you, shall I email the details', to which you say yeah just to get them off the phone. Then you get the email and it's the other end of the country.

Worst "I'm so awesome recruiters throw jobs at me" post ever :p

Mercifully, I am in recruitment advertising, so this is the time of year rec cons come to me to help source candidates.

Mine are either London or Midlands based. Just give them same old text book reply that you've given!

What can I say, I'm in demand ;)

Things might just be picking up at the moment and more opportunities are becoming available. There's never enough qualified candidates in certain fields. Although I'd take it as a compliment.

I had one yesterday where they phoned me up trying to see if I needed any new people, also wanting to know how many contractors we had. I told him that we had just laid a few people off and that we weren't hiring.

The cheeky f... wanted me to give him the details of the people we had laid off. Talk about data protection issues! Plonker.
