So I am on holiday visiting a friend out in the US and have already been to a number of places already but now just planning the biggest part of the trip which is 4 days / 3 nights in New York. Now have sorted the accommodation side of things out but have been mapping out the things I want to go and see there and a number of them are on the city pass. Is this a worthwhile thing to do or are there better products out there.

I know it's unlikely that I will see everything that I want in this time but I am hoping to see a number of important things to me.

I can't speak to the pass, but whether or not you do... Plan in advance! It's a great city to get lost and wander in, but if you're wanting to hit everything in such a short time, you'll need some sort of schedule to at least try to stick to!

Have a great time, wonderful city to visit. Not so sure I could live there.

Thanks for the reply. Although have now been to NYC and agree is an amazing city.

Decided not to go with the pass in the end as there were things that I wanted to see that the pass did not cover or the savings were just not there.

Had a fab time wandering around and got a lot done in the few days I was there. I will probably go back again at some stage once they have finished all the work around Ground Zero and unfortunately Time Square resembled a building site but it was still an experience to be there.

The good thing about the passes is that you can see a lot of things quickly for less cash.

The bad thing about the passes is that you see too much too fast, and if you're there longer than the passes cover and want to see stuff over a longer time, you're going to feel rushed.

I had a look at all the ones shown on the nycgo website and worked out that it was impossible to see everything this time round so I wanted to ensure that I saw the most important things to me and spend time there, rather than feel like I am rushing all the time to ensure I didn't miss anything (as NYC is sensory overload :p)

There were one or two things I didn't get to see but they were less important things on my list and I will probably see them next time I am out visiting.

Plus with having a general idea of what things I was seeing on the days I was there I had time to just wander, get lost as it were and stumble on things that were interesting that I might not have seen otherwise.

you will see most of new york quickly in 4 days just by walking.

we had one of them city passes with tourist bus in san fransisco, and we thought it was well worth it. we saw a lot of stuff we didnt know about and the driver gave a good enough tour of the city.

what does the pass include?

our was hop on/off bus for 3 days and Alcatraz tickets.

Had the city pass when I went two years ago a lot of people say it isn't worth the money but when I got mine it was discounted anyway and saw plenty with it the seven days i was there.

There are two NY passes. This is the one we got when we were there for 5 days.

It was better than the other one - a bit more expensive but covered most of the things we wanted to do. Best thing to do is plan your days and use as much as you can in the consecutive 3 days you have it.
