Afternoon
Wasn't really sure where to post this, general it is :)

I am trying to charge ipad 3rd gen 64gb (model A1430) with a fat connector. Using mpower z77 motherboard with super charger driver/software.

When plugged in, says not charging. I've tried every usb slot 2.0/3.0, front and back. I bought the charging pack on the internet. I am not sure if quality of the cable has something to do with this.

Has anyone got ideas? Thanks :)

Not sure if its still the same, But you cant charge them with USB under Windows.

Have tried this before, Will charge fine in a Mac, but then boot the same mac into Windows and it will not charge.

Thing is, it is charging even though it says it isn't. But its VERY slow, I am talking 5% per hour or something ridiculous like that :L

The cable should be irrelevant.

I don't think the motherboard is capable of more than 1.5 amps.
You need a more powerful power source, ideally 2.1 amps.

Yes an iPad will charge from as little as 1 amp, like Concorde says, although it wont say that it's charging, and it will take forever.

Edit: MSI's Super Charger page is here.

Well the mains plug that came with it will be 2.1 amps, this is as fast as it gets.

USB 2.0 standard is 0.5A
USB 3.0 standard is 0.9A

The boosted USB spec doesn't allow more than 1.5A :)

thing is, I bought the charger from ebay, which probably isn't 2.1A. When I charge it from the mains its as slow as pc. Not really sure what to do, one option is to wait for hours for it to charge :L
I have the original mains plug which takes usb. I've tried to use that but its still slow. My guess its the actual usb cable? not sure if that's even possible

No!

The original USB spec gives out 0.5A.

A revision to cope with higher consumption devices pushed that to 1A.

Then tablets came along and pushed that to 2.1A.

Fact of the matter is none of your devices has the ability to supply the required charge.

Buy a better charger that supports 2.1A or an apple official one or a mac or a motherboard with 2.1A support.

I don't think there are any motherboards with 2.1 amp USB sockets, I think 1.5 is the current standard (pardon the pun).

It could be the cable if it's a cheap non-genuine one.

There are some out there which are either too long, or the wires are too thin, or worse still both, so are unable to handle 2.1 amps.

The best option would be to buy the genuine Apple 12W USB Power Adapter and a genuine Apple USB lead. It'll set you back £30 for the 2, but you really can't trust cheap 3rd party stuff, there's a reason it's cheap. A lot of chargers will say 1 or 2 amps but in reality they are often not capable, and it's a downright lie, or as soon as you ask this of them they overheat after a few seconds or minutes and if you're lucky they shut off until they cool down, if you're not, they set fire to your house while you sleep :p

An iPad will charge from USB but only when the screen is off when connected to a Windows PC. It should charge at all times when connected to a Mac. This means when it's hooked up to your PC, every time you wake it up to check if it's charging, you see it say "Not Charging" but every time the screen goes off it DOES actually charge, so each time you wake it up the % next to the "Not Charging" note has slowly gone up!
