I must admit I find the whole concept horrifically scary but certainly liberating and wildly romantic. Whilst travelling so light has logistical issues, I think the memories and experiences would be worth more than anything you could buy. Sometimes even the dingiest hotel can be a good experience when in the context of the people you are with and the memories and humour you share.

I think the most amazing thing here is that two people met each other that both hat the tenacity to actually go through with it. Good luck to them.

So whilst I love the idea of this, I'm not sure I have the guts to actually do it. Would anyone here?

Yeah why not! Would have loved to do something like that...with the right person

Hell, if someone would look after my son for a little bit I'd do it next week

I think the warnings signs of him being a bit weird should have flashed up when he turned up wearing bright red kecks.

Privileged hipsters.

Privileged how? A trip live that isn't going to cost a fortune considering hotels are one of the major costs.

How is it if she only took one change of clothes that her flip-flops have transformed in o0ne of the Photo's? I'm calling Bull!

She bought some when she needed them?

It saddens me that members here still judge people by the way the look rather then the people they are.

Who can afford to take that level of time off work, then buy an expensive plane ticket and have enough money to do all that arsing around.

I don't know many people, outside of those with rich parents.

Plus, you know, going travelling, gotta bring your iPad mini...

I laugh at the over application of the word hipster and the devaluing of it's meaning, the fear people on this forum have of those who don't adopt their world view also the blatant and outright jealousy displayed by some who wouln't have the balls to even cotemplate something like the story.

Hell yes - I'd love to do something like that :D

Isn't that basically what most uni students do as a gap year, which many of them save up for by doing part time jobs whilst at school? ;)

Sounds like someone has a severe case of jealousy due to being stuck in the rut of their own mundane existence and not having the guts/motivation to actually get off their **** and do something fun/interesting with their life.

IMO the only problem with this type of thing is that you need a break to get over it! If you have a standard job with the standard pressures how do you get back to the grindstone after such a trip?

Who can afford a) this type of trip, b) the time to go on this type of trip, c) the extra tickets in case you miss your flights home and d) another week to get over the three weeks you spent travelling?

Please, most uni students don't have responsibilities, all funded by their parents.

When I was a uni student I worked because I had to or I'd be out on my arse, didn't have gullible parents to bail me out back then or lots of money to put by to save up thousands for big fancy trips. I seriously doubt these lot know what it's like to not have a quid for a loaf of bread and empty cupboards to contend with.

I mean realistically what am I gonna do now, say "Oh, sorry mate, just gonna not pay bills or show up to work for the next 3 months" try doing that as an adult, see how far it gets you?

And anyway, the world is a depressing and desperate place wherever you go.

That looks absolutely incredible, and I would love to have done that. The idea of being free from the normal constraints of western life appeals to me massively. Maybe I'm just a hippy
