almost silent air cooling vs almost silent water?

I've asked before about the best and most silent cpu coolers. But i'm wondering which would give best performance/noise ratio? A air cooler with a silent fan, or a corsair h100 with silent fans? To cool a 4570S 24/7 running. Small form factor. So need to keep the heat down.

Thoughts? View's? Opinions? please :-)

With the H100 on silent you won't really hear it anyway, you will probably get more performance out of it in small form factor as you'd have to fit in a pretty huge heatsink to compensate for h100.

But big aircooled heatsinks are always quieter.

Got an H100 in my current build. The default fans are not great, I do hear them. But lots of quieter fans. But for £39 for an H100 I think I would be hard to beat it. Noise/performance/price

A big air cooler is pointless in that case so a H100 is your best option. If you want it to be near silent, then get some quieter low RPM fans than the stock ones.

Your other option is to get a top down cooler like this: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-014-NC

It won't run as cool as the H100 but since you're not overclocking and just need something quiet, it'll be perfectly adequate and cheaper.

thought i best comment on this one as i have that cooler on my 3570k
been on it since the day i got it, they married now :p
overclocked to 4.5, doesnt go above 70s with just the bottom fan on
and does that while keeping the motherboard cool too :)

i plan on changing it when upgrading, just for looks, going to be a sad day tho i think!

In my experience it's always the GPU's which are the painpoints. One of the reasons why I went back to H20 after having my 680's and 780 on air. If you want max graphic performance with silence then you need water.

Silence = Custom Loop, l agree GPU's most of the time fans ramping up and down and Pump.

When you water cool both the CPU + GPU as long as you have some air flow. In my case l have just 2 BitFenix Pro 200mm fans on fan controller[ BitFenix Raider case] about half speed roughly 450rpm + 560 Rad 4x1000rpm.

Just about silent, but my DVD-RW is the loudest in my PC, when in use and l can just hear my pump.
