Cooper S dealer warranty Q (it's broken again!)

Hello chaps,

I recently bought an R53 from a specialist dealer, it came with 12 months MOT and 6 months warranty (private offered by the dealer and his garage)

2 months have passed... I hit a pothole doing about 3mph down a country lane in heavy rain, since then the car has made a grinding metal/metal noise coming from the front O/S. I had already ordered a set of discs and pads as Opie oils had 15% off Brembo so decided I'd check out the noise whilst fitting these (they were an advisory on the MOT 2 months prior)

As it turns out, the wheel bearing has collapsed and the rear lower wishbone bush has torn. A new bearing will be ~£115 and a pair of wishbone bushes will be £52 but could be a good days work by the time I've dropped the subframe. So my question is A) is the dealer likely to fix it as surely the wheel bearing and bush couldn't be that bad with an MOT only 2 months ago!

And B) what are my chances of claiming anything from the council for the damage?

I have a good idea what the consensus may be and TBH I don't really object to doing the work (any tips on changing a wheel bearing and wishbone bush?) but if you don't ask you don't get.

Thoughts on this much appreciated :)

Best of luck taking on the local council. If their anything like mine they're dealing with massive budget cuts, losing staff like there's a plague and don't have the budget to settle claims. Their in-house legal team will fight it tooth and nail.

Do the decent thing and don't lie to people to avoid admitting you made a mistake.

It's a 7+ year old car. I'd love to see you try and prove it was in great nick and not wear and tear from the previous tens of thousands of miles.

The local council supposedly have put away something daft for claims for compensation, I know of a fella that had an alloy paid for a couple of years ago. Got to be worth a phone call.

It's not a case of lying, more a case of 'two things have broken that are well known for breaking on Mini's 2 months after I bought it with 6 months warranty'

An 18 month old car in manufacturers warranty perhaps. An 11 year old Mini with dealer mechanical breakdown insurance. No chance.

Might be worth a trek out to have a look at how bad it really was. I'm making a mild assumption that the pothole is to blame. These runflats and 17's have a habit of pointing out road defects.
