Children In Need - How much have you donated?

I'd be more inclined to get involved in a charity where I could actually see where my efforts went.

Not just some apparent black hole where my cash went so the BBC can proudly announce they topped last year's achievement.

I appreciate what they're trying to do, and the worthiness of it all but I just feel they're going about it the wrong way.

Instead of "donate cash" for Children in Need. How about "Donate your time/skills for Children in Need"?

Are you referring to children in need or Children in Need?

Children in Need is just a trademark. Doesn't literally mean children which are in need.

I watched about 5 mins of it and this is what I saw...

Well off kid went to France on awesome skiing holiday.
Kid slipped banged his head.
Kid went in coma.
Kid later died.
Parents crying.
Family home looks well off, I don't see any children in need....

"What possible "need" could this family have?" I was wondering throughout the whole brainwashing piece.... Turns out they need a counsellor who makes special house calls. Just LOL.

Get real. **** "Children in Need". If you really care about ill children go here: http://www.dec.org.uk

Or you can donate to 'Children in Need' and keep a house call counsellor's salary paid. Your choice.

You have focussed on segment of the program about 5 minutes long.

Meh. Not gonna waste 3 hours watching horrendous comedy, Z list celebrities, and some sob stories scattered here and there which are specifically doctored to brainwash you by inducing emotion. I gave it a chance and saw a load of crap.

I'd rather go to dec.org.uk and put my money towards the efforts which are saving children from imminent death.

£0

predicted: £0

so a win for me, they can use the £60 mil or whatever it is in foreign aid to India for their space program if they're that worried about it

Why don't they take 50% of footballers salaries, MPs salaries, zelebrities earnings etc and stop asking me for more of my money. It really ****ed me off on so many levels. I'm not heartless and if our paths cross I will be more than willing to help but ultimately you look after #1 and family so I genuinely couldn't care less about people that I will never meet who will never affect me in any way

I do drop the odd fiver for Movember, sponsored walks etc. As for Children in Need, didn't realise it was as early as 15th Nov. Back in my days, it was Friday 24th November (1995). When did it move back by 1 week?

Made 30 quid selling cup cakes at work yesterday.

115 quid in total selling them elsewhere over the last couple of days.

Nothing pee's me off more than rich people putting their names to charities rather than their money.

Bono, makes billions, when it comes to charity, the people who have paid him billions to listen to his crap music and go to his concerts.. he asks THEM to donate. So someone pays £100 to go see Bono, then Bono tries to guilt that person into spending another £20 on charity even though say the average person to go see him is on £25k a year, while he has a billion that he won't donate himself.

Fair enough to the exceedingly few celebrities that give away the majority of their cash THEN use their name to help generate more. But most of this charity generating focus should be on other rich people, not poor people.

What's worse is that Bono is seen as some kind of saint for all his work, while he merely uses it to reinforce his good name and get richer. Rather than people rightly deciding he's a greedy **** and refusing to give him any more money, they decide he's such a great person that they like him more, and pay even more for his tours, which go up in price every time.

Rich people using guilt to induce charity donations, then they can go around acting like they give out millions, when really very few give out any of their own money.

If we look at how much Children in need make, ignoring what they waste on pampering celebrities and how much of the cash is wasted on pointless spending on the least needful places, Bono could donate a half a years salary and basically dwarf Children in need's charity raising total...... get 50 guys like Bono together, turn them over and shake them, the loose change would generate more. Seriously though 50 guys at Bono's level could probably triple the entire uk's "charity" spending in total, and not a single one of them would notice the cash missing..... that is what's insane.

At least Gates has given billions away already and doesn't plan to just give his entire fortune to his kids but is spending billions more every year on charity.

Why should they ?

I made a tenner selling cup cakes at work. Very happy with that as it paid for my KFC on the way home.

Why should they ?

Most of them wouldn't notice it gone, most of them don't even deserve the pay (footballers in particular, they are getting paid stupid money)

So why shouldn't they?

Football clubs should take what ever they pay, take 1/3rd of the wages and donate them to charity instead, I know a couple of sportsmen that already do it anyway, and they still can't spend all the cash they have (I watched a thing about some basket ball and American football clubs that do it as well as a couple of UK footballers).

When your paid millions a year, even just donating the interest would be thousands more than most of us on here earn every year.
