*** The Official Playstation 4 (PS4) Thread ***

Just spent 15 minutes trying out a PS4, sadly only had Knack which wasn't great, looked like a high end PS3 game and gameplay very bland. On the upside the controller was much much better, I'd hesitate to say better than the 360 controller but think it'll be personal preference on that. Can't comment on noise as it was in a plastic box, the store did tell me it had overheated several times but in a sealed box that's not a huge surprise although a bit worrying as it wasn't a hot day.

Overall I wasn't blown away but Knack is probably the weakest title to demonstrate why you'd go next gen.

Never understood the love for xbox controllers, non symmetrical sticks seems odd and the dpad is hella bad

Little bit of a teaser for Project Cars seeing as its been announced for PS4 and Xbox one

Been playing the game via Steam quite a bit recently, since the early builds the game has now really started to become more interesting. At one time, it was near impossible to race with night and rain conditions, what with poor grip, visibility and shocking FPS, its now a pretty good game in those conditions.

If anyone is interested in racing games, then this might be up your street.

360 controller is good, its more comfortable then the DS3 I use one on my PC daily. Would have been happy to use a 360 controller on my PS3 if I could have got it to work lol

not sure why people would cancel? im still stoked i feel most malfunctions from firmware will be fixed any faulty units will be a minority or from shipping, im confident things will be sorted and a lot of the problems reported are fanboys, most people jump to complain and post negative reviews as opposed to credit it too on Amazon anyway.
While I don't agree that a lot of the problems are merely from MS fanboys trying to cause trouble (that makes you sound like a PS4 fanboy who can't listen to anyone badmouth the console), I do agree that cancelling based on a few faulty units makes no sense. Every electrical item manufactured on a large scale will have faulty units. The XB1 will undoubtedly have the same. The chances of any of us getting a duff unit are statistically very small (roughly 1 in 1000 I reckon). If you were stoked for the console before, I see no reason to cancel an order now. I haven't :)

While I agree, I can't help but think MS have made double extra mega sure that there's no RRoD thing going on with the XBOne. Where as Sony would have just probably done what they do with all their products testing.

But as you say it can't be helped in some cases and people will think 1 faulty = 1 million are to follow. It's just spurred on by the fact that the previous generation was the first of its kind to have a lot of failures, either that or the internet hasn't helped and word just gets around easier I can't ever remember seeing a broken PS1 or a NES because it had flashy lights :p

On another note how are folks finding their new PS4's those who have them anyway?

I would certainly think MS have tried extra hard to avoid another RROD scenario. That probably explains the large console and the external power brick - they want to keep it as cool as possible.

Still, you're right that this gen seems to have had more failures than previously. My original Xbox was rock solid, as was my PS2. I don't think I've had any consoles fail on me prior to his gen.

Same here, lets hope it was a one off and everyone has learned their lesson lol :D

I do have a question though seeing as some of you might know the PS4 headset/communication thing is it really just an ear bud or have I been lied to?

I had two broken ps1 consoles, both due to the cd drive not working unless I put a book under one side or stood the console on its side..

never had any issues with my ps2, sold a 360 to a work mate, it rrod two months later as I helped him sort the warranty calm for him.

had way too many ps3 40gb phats ylod on me, until finally Sony replaced with 320gb slim. thwt also had a fault with the 320gb hd, some games skipped, so swapped the hd for a 500gb never had a problem after that still got that ps3.

I've never had a console fail on me and that goes back to the Amiga days. Granted I didn't get the original 360 or PS3 (got later builds) but I did get the original Super Nintendo, Snes, Sega Master system, Megadrive, N64, Gamecube, Wii, PS1, PS2 - never had a problem with any of them.

Cancelling a pre-order because of a faulty units report is a little premature. That's not why I'm cancelling, it's because of lack of interesting games and over inflated game prices.

I'm waiting for Destiny, The Order 1866, Diablo III and a few others before buying. Spring/Summer 2014 is the time to go nextgen ;)

Anyone getting it from game and paying by pay pal and had an email warning me to pay? It links to a page that says I have no preorder alerts?

Yes glad it's not just me that's had that, I've tried getting a call back twice but no reply so it's time to complain I think, the only reason I went with game is because I traded my Xbox in and about to trade my ps3 in so I have points on the reward card to use

I was originally going to get both the XBONE and the PS4 but the last few days I've thought about it and I really don't want to pay £500 just to play Dead Rising.

So just gonna grab the PS4 on launch day and get in on the Killzone multiplayer and also Assassin's Creed 4 as that looks pretty awesome on PS4! :D

search "STOLEN PS4 PRANK! " on youtube.

Good on grandpa pranking pickleboy, he deserves it. The expression on that boy is priceless. :D

What pathetic little baby. He can prank grandpa all day long but can't take a prank on him.
