I can't play games anymore

38 here. Trying hard to keep up with my daughter on racing games (she's 12) is a bit embarrassing (as well her her constantly putting me on my butt in fighting games). From the PC side of things I do more strategy, slower paced stuff (World of Tanks etc) which I can take a break and come back to if needed.

For some reason the only game that has given me motion sickness and I had to stop is Skyrim - really gutted as the game looks awesome.

For me, it's not my age (I'm only 30 in April), it's time. By the time the kids are in bed, pots are washed etc, it's on for 8pm - 7.30pm if I'm lucky. I then have the decision - do some weights, play some games or do some marking/planning or actually just do nothing. Games often slip down the list unless I'm very motivated.

I'm 22 and I've given up for the time being. Only had the desire to play GTA this year (and a few games of CS) but that's it. Not looking forward to any new games.

I have also noticed now I'm older that when I play sequels I can't ****ing remember the game from before or what the plot is.

Like I have just finished Dead Space 3 and apart from a needle in the eye and running away like a girl from the regenerating necro remember little of the previous games plot.

I'm getting steadily worse as the years go on. Used to play Quake, every iteration, was really good at Q3A (not pr0 or anything, but pub superstar :D), UT and CS. Soon after CSS came out, I started playing less and less in general and my skill has dropped to practically nothing. I can hold my own in public CSS still, but need 20 odd minutes to warm up :( UT and Quake Live, get murderised :(

I spend more time reading about games and collecting retro stuff than actually playing these days

30 btw

I wish I had that problem, it would make replaying games like Bioshock much more fun :)

All I can remember of that game is the intro and thoroughly rubbish save system :D Plot, nothing. Same with bioshock 2 :(

Hopefully by morning I will have forgotten the god awful Dead Space 3.

Wow old man's gaming club; maybe we should ask for a sub forum?:)

Anyway I'm 37 with a 14 month year old boy and been gaming since Jason's Gem and Journey's End on the old spectrum 48k.

What has changed for me is the ability for a game to really hold my attention for very long any more. I find it really hard to complete a game without a serious amount of willpower. I simply don't get drawn in as much as I used too.

I still waste money buying games I think I will put a lot of time in; FM 2013 comes to mind but I prefer simple games now, i.e. stuff like Trine, Rayman Origins/Legends or Thomas Was Alone. Saying that though I picked up Crysis 1 and 2 for cheap and was pleasantly surprised at their quality; best FPS I have played since HL2 and Unreal.

Maybe we just become more discerning the older we get?

Like others have said, for me it is just about lack of time more than anything. I play fewer games now because I'm busy, not because I don't want to.
Staying up late to play games after the family has gone to bed was fine when it was just me and the wife, but now we have a son going to bed at 1am doesn't work out too well if I'm being woken up at 3/4/5am :)

That said, I do wonder if my reactions have waned somewhat as sometimes when playing QW I'll be killed without getting a shot off despite pressing fire the moment I see an enemy.

My memory for most games I enjoy is pretty exceptional, so I remember a ton about the games. Plotlines, twists, set pieces, even dialogue. It's a blessing and a curse at times!

I'm 48 and been playing since the early 80's, I don't think I'm any worse than i've ever been but i've never been particularly good in the first place.

The only game i've ever played online against actual people was Battlefield 1942 and I was utterly terrible at it so I didn't bother signing my 360 up when I got that. I prefer sandbox games where you can use a bit of logic to make the missions easier, and muck about if I feel like being mindless.

I cannot cope with RTS type games like the C&C series there's too much going on for my tiny brain.

Must admit, it's quite reassuring to see so many older - than me at least - folks still into gaming. I'm 26 and still love it, but there is always that nagging thought that as I get older and life (eventually) takes hold that gaming will be one of the first things to go, no danger of that happening any time soon though it seems!

I turn 30 in 4 months
Took me a while to get back into the swing of competitive gameplay after almost a year playing mainly single player games (and world of tanks) but I'm now starting to top the scoreboard in BF4. Usually in the top 3 at least. My reactions are no where near what they used to be in the good old days of N64, then onto being in a clan that was top of clanbase in the first CoD.
