Upgrade Time (Another one)

Hey Everyone,

So I have the system below and have about £600-£700 to spend on upgrades, just wondering what you think would be good upgrades?

I am thinking the GPU (possibly 780) but want your advice and maybe windows 8.1 as I heard it performs better on games?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

System:
4820K - Overclocked
16GB Ram
850HX PSU
760 - MSI
128SSD & 1.5TB HD
Alpenföhn K2- Mount Doom cooler
Win 7 - 64Bit

Though personally, id look at getting the 770's and watercooling it all, but thats just me..

Thank you Doomedspeed, yes this -probably- be my only upgrade on this machine as I am hoping to go all new end of next year or so.

I think you'll be fine for another 12 months on the above.

Agreed with Dave if you’re doing a new system next year save your moneys.

thats what I was gonna do but thought I'd at least do the gpu for now and save the rest for next year.

If GPU only - wait for Mantle patch to come out on BF4 to get a real world guage of the performance gains on it and revisit.

If I was in your position, I'd be more inclined to look at R9 290 or 290X as Mantle could be a real game changer. And again - wait for the non-reference coolers to come out on these cards as I think they look crap with the stock cooler!

Very helpful thank you! Thats another thing I was looking at in the R9 290 and 290x but heard a lot of problems with driver issues too.

You'll get driver issues from the Red and the Green camp. It's a constant refinement otherwise there would be nothing for the driver devs to do!

True. But I heard a lot of nvidia fans going to 280 and 290 and returning them.
