Loss of power in 4th/5th gear

If you actually had to put 5L in and it was only serviced recently then that would suggest you were driving around in a car that the garage handed back to you pretty much dry.

In which case I'd be pretty angry with them.

[Edit] Just seen that above, if it's on the orange and you drive it then there's going to be big problems.

Looool, unlocky Op but that's what you get for making such brash decisions :/

I assumed the engine oil light coming on means it needs oil, I thought to myself I've not put oil in for ages so must need some. I must have not been thinking and thought the orange bit was the marker. Is it easy to drain out?

There will be a plug on your engine to drain it out with. Changing the oil is part of the service though so if it was done recently it should be at the right level.

Good lord. I guess it's just lucky you didn't fill it until it was at the top of the crankcase.

Driving around with 5l of excess oil in the car? That's going to have killed a seal surely.

B...b..but you said you only had a service last Wednesday? Why... i mean, why would you fill up the oil just because it's been a while since you've done it?? That's not even mentioning the fact that less than a week ago a mechanic did it for you!

To quote my favourite cheesy action movie "Assumption is the mother of all **** ups". ;)

There's a drain plug ... in the sump, which is right at the bottom of the engine and most likely covered up with an undertray. Take it to the nearest garage. It'll likely need a full drain and re-fill with the correct oil. If you can't put the correct quantity in I expect you didn't use VW approved oil for PD engines.

I had a crappy day at work, thanks for cheering me up!

5l is very bad though! Does the oil still sit on the orange marker?

Sweet Jesus...you just went full retard on that oil.

Sorry op but I will guess you haven't skim read the Highway Code either.

I'd take it straight to a decent garage and leave it with them.

Tow it you mean, don't run the engine with the crank going for a swim in the oil!
