best way to "insure" holiday

hey

After my wedding on the 29th dec, we plan to go to Venice from 31st to 4th January as a mini honeymoon, then a bigger more expensive one in the summer or w/e.

Anyway I was wondering if there is a way to have a Holiday insured against weather problems, as they are saying this winter may be very bad hence my worrys of seeing close to a grand go bye bye if the flights are grounded.

Any advice?

Speak to your tour operator or holiday insurer. If they don't cover it, you could always go for natural disaster insurance (or equivalent).

I'd remove the stress and book the holiday for a more clement season.

I think i will pop down to the local agents and see what they can offer us, Im sure it will be at a more premium price but if they can "package" it then from what i have read it may put our minds at rest.

I have tried saying that Magnolia, But the other half is adamant to go to venice for new years to see the fireworks and all that jazz, it doesn't help that she is a teacher and can only go on holiday when the schools are off (makes it expensive).

In fairness, I think the premium will be derived from the fact that the entirety of the holiday's value could be claimed back and that you'd be looking to ensure for a time of year where weather is most likely to be adverse. Whereas most policies will cover cancelled flights for a number of reasons, that won't help you claim back for missed nights at your accommodation or any other activities that you have already paid for.

I don't think the 100 days of snow should be too much of an issue though.

Won't a regular annual travel insurance policy at circa 25 quid cover this?

Insurance might cover you for your flights if the airline cancel them but if you book separate accommodation it might not cover you for that.

Things like not being able to get to the airport because of weather won't be covered either, unless you use another service (train) which is then cancelled.

I say might because it all comes down to policy and will be dependant on exactly what had prevented your holiday/travel.
