Goooooogle blocks 100,000 search terms for kiddyporn!

What a complete waste. As if people who want to find it will type it into Google.

I've always assumed that Google blocked the obvious terms anyway and also that nobody would be mad enough to use Google to search for child porn.

It's a waste...if you assume that the goal is to stop people finding child porn on the net. Which leads to the conclusion that isn't the goal.

The most plausible goals are:

1) To give politicians and media a chance to parade themselves as heroes and pretend they're doing something useful. Many people have no real knowledge of the internet or paedophilia, so many people will fall for it.

2) To give politicians the infrastructure and precedent to block whatever they want. Of course, nobody will ever abuse that power. Obviously.

Pornography can have a positive slant on it as the parties involved are, you hope, engaged in agreed activities. You can't say the same thing about sexual abuse.

As we discussed in an earlier thread, it seems more to do with the fact that "child abuse" is a less offensive and more vague term which removes all blame from the child, but is therefore also incorrect. "Child porn" is quick and to the point, and it covers things like level 1 child pornography and self-taken photographs, whereas "child abuse" does not.

Meanwhile, WI members searching Google for recipes for "delicious Japanese cake" will be arrested and put on the sex offenders register :p

How many West Indian members do we have?

Tor browser? lol You mean torrent

:/

Isn't that one very old version of firefox that was part of a tor bundle that was compromised, for the most part tor is as safe as it ever was.

'Safe'?

Only inasmuch as terrorists hiding amongst the general public are 'safe'. It's a worrying way to word something that appears innocent at first.

Where's a golf clap gif when you need one? :p

I really can't see this as having any meaningful effect on the problem, it's purely a media tool for DC and the conservatives. But now this system is in place, what's the betting search terms not related to the original issue gradually get added in years to come?

Although the most shocking thing I learnt from all of this was that Lycos still exists.

At first I thought this 100,000 figure must just be the number of possible permutations of a few particular keywords? How many different terms for kiddy fiddling are there?

I suppose if they are doing every language then it's feasible...

Confused , how is that ignorant? I’ve never heard of the term (tor) before, how about an appology?

An apology for what? Don't you know what ignorance is? If doesn't seem like you do. The way you tried to correct the post was just awkward and embarrassing.
