2 x 580 gtx vs 1 titan

2 580's are about on par with a 780. So a Titan will be a little better. Extra VRAM will be a major help too. 1.5Gb just isnt enough these days.

I'm just a bit underwhelmed with the performance of my new titan and was wondering if id bought another 580 and sli'd it would i have had similar performance, i.e. was the titan a big waste of cash? Or do i go balls out and buy a 2nd titan. Or sell the titan and get two 780ti's... Decisions decisions.

Titan's performance was unparralleled back in February. But you'd be mad to buy one now.

1.5GB on the 580, regardless of money saved is just too little now. for 1440P performance two Titans opens up a lot more options such as more SSAA/ MSAA. So it's definitely a worthy performance increase. Whether or not you think it's worth the cash is your prerogative though. You don't really need all 6GB VRAM at that resolution.

Scenarios besides compute that the Titan holds over the newer cards is obviously 4K, and surround resolutions.

Thankfully i got it trade price, less the vat. Its the only reason i gave it a go.

DOnt think ill be plumping for the new screens, so maybe sell the titan and get a 780ti ..

You won't see much of an improvement over the Titan going to a single Ti, so you're in a rock and a hard place because Nvidia are refusing to budge on Titan pricing because it does still regardless of what some might say have it's own market.

It's up to you! I ran two Titans before going to three. And they do scale really well, especially when using large amounts of SSAA. See if you can pick up a cheap Titan. I just sold mine for less than I would have liked. :(

Yeah ill give a second a go then when i next get paid, ill see what i can get a 2nd hand one for if its less than a trade one then i might do that. I take it if i bought a evga and my current titans a asus the sli'ing wouldnt be an issue or does it help/ have to be the same brand/card?

Thanks for all your help, invaluable !

So you went from a single 580 to a titan and were underwhelmed with the performance? The titan should be a huge improvement over a single 580. Whats the rest of your system specs out of curiosity?

Haha, yeah ok.

There must be 1 graphics card that can run any game at its highest setting at the highest std monitor resolution?

Sorry to hijack thread slightly but I have a similar dilemma, I have 2 gtx 580's and was deciding whether to upgrade as I went to a 1440 monitor since having the cards. I do get acceptable frame rates in battlefield 4 on high settings but have to have the AA off. Would I benefit from getting a 780ti or R290X always been with NVidia since I had Issues with drivers about 8 years back, are amd any better these days?

Thanks

Yeah, same issue as you, titan can run 2560 x 1440 @ high but with all AA hbao etc turned off, i thought i'd be able to have it on ultra full full aa etc with a titan !

oh dear, so the same as my 2 580's, maybe I should wait until next generation of cards, any one knows when the 8xx's are coming out?
or should I get 2 x 780?

I can't recall there ever being a card in history that could do this, nor is there one today.

Sell that titan and get 2 780s or 2 290s when custom coolers for them come out
