*** The Official Playstation 4 (PS4) Thread ***

Not really.

These games journalists don't seem to understand the question because they are technologically ignorant, like many console gamers are.

Asking which is better, needs to involve which has more grunt. That topic is constantly dodged.

Did you read it? He works in retail, not journalism. Customers ask him which is best and he is making the point that essentially it's up to the customer which is best, because all that really matters is the games. Not the grunt, the fps, the UI, the camera, gpu, but the games. After all the technical differences between the consoles you have to admit those differences are negligible and like the quote says, there isn't anything particularly mind blowing about either console in development terms. The proof will be in developers games.

The PS4/XB1 could be the most powerful console the world has ever seen, but if the game are crap or just not to your taste, all you've got is an expensive paper weight.

For a console gamer, the games should always be the number 1 priority. If looking at the games doesn't immediately point you towards a specific console, then you can start looking at other features like power, UI, features etc.

From that site...

Like that.

Yup, seems a nice even handed review. That quoted paragraph is spot on as well.

I agree as well. I don't understand why people want one of the consoles to "win". We need both consoles to do well because both companies need competition.
I'm going with the PS4 to start with because, for me, it has the better games.

Aye at the end of the day its got to come down to exclusives or more likely to where your friends are likely to be.

I am holding off on buying a console now until after xmas and will see how it all pans out, wait for some decent bundles as neither has a game i want to play bar possibly killer instinct on x1 but that is not nearly enough to make me shell out £430 quid.

But as a pc gamer i dont have a community of people i normally play with to draw me to a console so though instinct says get the ps4 for extra power, i am looking at things like skype on x1 for my g/f to talk to her family instead of the laptop, and streaming capabilities as the laptop i sold was essentially just a media player in my living room so could do with replacing that aspect.

Hopefully sony get skype and also make good on the promise of patching in DLNA, but i will wait to see it before i commit.

It's a shame everyone doesn't think like that. I'm sure it's from the 90s era of competitive advertising. I'd have loved to go XBO this gen, my PS3 is only used for FIFA as that's what my mates have, and they're all getting PS4s. That, and ND games are the reasons I'm getting a PS4.

...although if they hadn't had improved the controller I may have had to put my foot down and tell the rest it was XBO or nothing. :)

That's the answer of salesman though.

Wouldn't the correct answer be that the PS4 has the more powerful hardware but the XB1 has potentially a better UI with more features?

For me, I'm just more invested in the Playstation brand. I LOVE my Vita, and the remote play feature has me so excited to try, and it's something I can see myself using loads. That, with PS+, makes it extremely difficult to choose XBO over PS4, even if there are some games that I would like to play on XBO.

I get the argument it's about games, which it is, but why don't we all just buy PS2's as it has arguably the best library of games ever?

Also why is it a dichotomy between good games or best available graphics? Why not both, since we are spending hundreds of pounds..

If it was only about the games millions of people wouldn't be going bananas over the console launches, as it'll be years before PS4/Xbone have a games library that rivals the current generation.

To the majority of (particularly western) gamers graphics do matter.

The fact is one console is out performing the other console quite vastly after all of these "correction" patches. At an £80 cheaper price point.

No doubt every console owner will buy multi platform games. The difference should be displayed to the public and that is starting to happen. Yes its about the games but a lot of people have to make a decision and this performance and price point gap should be a factor. May be there wouldn't be such a fuss if the XBOX wasn't so overpriced. Say that £80 is for Kinect, it should still be priced lower for the shortfall in performance.

I'm kind of glad the PS4 won't have as many media features. PS3 had everything on it and my wife wanted to use it for things so often I had to buy a 2nd one.

This time around, I just need the 1 as she can keep using the PS3 for media stuff. lol

It's not just about games, nor is it just about power, UI etc. It's about a combination of both. I want the best games, but I want to play them on the best console. If it was only about games, I'd stick with the SNES and if only about power I'd go for a PC.

But as with any product, it's personal preference as to which the individual wants. No point worrying about why someone else prefers one over the other, that's quite pathetic and you should spend that extra energy having fun.

Anyone still unsure whether to keep or cancel their ordeR?

If none of the launch games interest you and you're one of those that are eagerly awaiting Infamous, cancel and re-order the Infamous Bundle when it's out for pre-order! If that doesn't interest you either then wait until Watch Dogs is out or better yet Uncharted if that takes your fancy!

They do interest me, but only problem is I have my PC, 360 and PS3 to play most of them. Except Killzone which I have it pre ordered as part of the mega bundle. Just not sure if it's really worth spending £500 altogether.

If anyone is after a release day PS4 - Zavvi have got the hardcore gamer bundle back in stock for release day delivery.

I'm going to get both, most of us here can easily afford to buy a dozen of these over the course of the life of the machine, I'm not sure why people have to pick one and stick to it, then actually too stubborn to even contemplate buying a second console.

Buy both machine, then buy a game that comes out you want, with no restriction or bias.

Job done, no faff and enjoy the game and no need to worry about what the other side can do because you can do both.

I'm not saying I am getting them both on the same day or even same month, but I foresee this time next year I'll have at least one and possibly both. If one game on certain system is either better looking, I'll get that, if the same game is more fun with kinect, then I'll get that.

The solution is so easy, the margin of the argument is £400 ish. Cost of a top end graphic card.

Then to be truthfully honest, it doesn't sound like you need one. Save the money for a rainy day.
