*** Nexus 5 THE Official Thread ***

Vanilla Android and latest updates do it for me to me honest, my last 3 phones have been Nexus devices and I have a Nexus 7,

At the moment there isn't a phone on the market id rather have, maybe the LGG2 but I didn't like the plastic feel and some times I think I would have liked the sony xperia z1 but with both I would have wished Id stuck to the Nexus 5.

Loads of reasons:

- Changeable battery
- Better Screen
- SD Card
- Larger battery
- Better speakers

The Nexus5 is not the best Android phone on the market despite everyone trying to make it. Its a good phone for the price but that doesn't make it the best phone. Even the budget Moto G has shown that it shows Blacks better than the Nexus5.

The Nexus range will never be the best android phones on the market but they are not intended to be.

After the experience I've had with my Nexus I think I'd rather put up with the drawbacks TBH. Usability matters to me more than bells and whistles.

Which is?

I wasn't going to list them as they're the general points that come up fairly often.

I moved from an S4 to the N5, and so far I'm totally sold! Overall the device is just a lot nicer to use day to day. Yes it's a bit newer, so that accounts for much of the better hardware, but I've just found the experience actually using it to be nicer.

Speed wise compared with the S4 it's shockingly quick. I thought the S4 was fast, but this takes it to a different level. I won't list all the improvements/comparisons as they're well documented elsewhere. There's also the modding/rooting aspect, which is even simpler on the Nexus lines. A big point for me is not having to deal with KNOX/flash counters any more, so not needing to worry about warranties disappearing!

To be honest a lot of it will be personal preference, but I can understand why a lot of people swear by the Nexus range.

Has anyone used the N5 as a wireless dongle? I'm not having much success :(

I've enabled the option in the wireless settings on the phone, but my computer's just not seeing the network through the phone when I do. Drivers seem to be installed correctly as I can access the phone over USB, and ADB works fine. :S

I have and it works (Hotspot) without any issues, try configuring the settings etc

Can't be a driver issue as drivers are not linked to the hotspot bit anyway its just your wifi detecting N5 as a hotspot.

I think you've minunderstood me :(

I'm not trying to share the N5's internet to my computer over WiFi, but to plug my phone into the computer via USB and then connect to my normal WiFi network through the phone.

Just can't seem to get it to work!

Definite reproducable problem where my vibration stops halfway through a text and stays off, phonecalls don't even make it vibrate after it happens. Happily Google have sent me a new one and I have a few days to return this one. Im half expecting them to say there's nothing wrong with it but i don't even think they'll care.

Got a serious case of deja vu for a second there! Then I realised it's because you posted the exact same thing on the previous page?:confused:

I'm not a fan of vanilla android. Its to plain and bare. TBH if it wasnt for custom roms i would go back to iOS. 4.4 still has some issues- thats the price you pay for the latest OS

I would have thought all phones would fit that bill, even an old Nokia

Funny you should say that because i have an S4 but have a Nexus 5 on order too. I have no doubt the N5 will be faster but i think that's partly due to the 4.4 update and the bare bone Android. I wonder how much faster it will be when you have installed a custom rom (when they are available) and a few tweaks/customisations....

The modding is defo better on Nexus devices- one of the reasons why i had the N4 and now the N5 on order.

Im just wondering how good it will be out the box compared to the S4....?
Obviously faster but what about all the bugs and issues. Camera being for one (i know there is a fix on the way but when will that reach us?). From reviews it seems that the screen is better on the S4...blacks being black where as on the N5 blacks appear dark grey.

I'll have an N5 soon to compare it to my S4.

At the moment I've got it rooted, but not modified, so it can only get better (hopefully) with a custom ROM later down the line. The modding has never really been bad on Galaxy devices, they're popular enough that there's no end of developers willing to make something for the phones, however the Nexus lines will always have the upper hand just due to the nature of the phones.

Out of the box it was a lot smoother, I didn't really have any crashes with the S4, and I've not had any with the N5, so there's not really much difference there.

The screen is definitely different between the two. The S4's has the darker blacks, and the colours are more itnense, however I wouldn't say it's better. I find whites a LOT nicer on the N5 (I do a lot of web browsing, so that's quite a big factor for me), and in general text seems more readable, although I can't really work out why that is. The screen also seems brighter, although that probably comes down to the autobrightness more than anything.

I've not ran into too much hassle with the camera. It can be slow to focus in some situations, but nothing that's really made a problem for me so far. The quality of the shots is definitely an improvement over the S4 in darker conditions, haven't had a chance to test it in good sunlight yet though.

There is no 'best' phone. Different devices suit different people.

There is a best 'bang for the buck' phone, and at the moment that is what the Nexus are designed to be.

I don't think your statement is possible. If there can be a 'best bang for buck' then there is a measure of how good a phone is as it then needs to be compared to the price you pay. If this is the case, we can then also see which phone is best overall.

Agreed different phones will suit different people, but to say you can't judge a phone against a set of criteria is, in my opinion, wrong. Whether these criteria suit you, is a different matter.

You can of course set your own criteria and then judge which is best for you.

I have had a few phones recently from the HTC One, LG G2 and Lumia 1020. Have this phone now and loving it, its super fast and smoother than anything else I have used, stock looks really nice on this they have just made it look much nicer than 4.3 launcher. I can't see anyone being disappointed with it and for the price nothing can match it simple as.
