I think the new consoles are trying to do too much.

I (and most people I know) already have a Smart TV with recording, voice and motion control. Bluray players come with smart apps built in. Freeview boxes and other PVR's are loaded with these functions as well.

Do we really need all our devices loaded with duplicated functions.

Microsoft and Sony should focus on building a quality games machine and not spend time developing stuff people already have and that works much better in their other devices.

Isn't that what Sony have done with PS4? even Microsoft said that if all you want is a games machine then get a PS4. :p

Taken from the PS4 review at Ars Technica : http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2013/11/playstation-4-hardware-review-off-to-a-mixed-start/

Highlighted in bold is the stuff that seems worthless on a console, yet Sony have and will continue to commit resources to developing them.

The bad
Relatively high power consumption
Leap in graphics doesn't provide the "wow factor" of previous generational jumps
Controller only gets about 7 hours of battery life
Flat system interface gets cluttered and hard to use
Limited editing and upload options for gameplay clips
Music Unlimited is clunky, and it's the only way to get outside music

The ugly
Camera-based voice commands are practically useless
iOS PlayStation App seems of limited use

Bluetooth headsets don't work for some reason

This being Sony who also manufacture Smart TVs...

Last Gen I ended up with the following devices capable of watching Netflix under the one TV :
WDTV
Xbox 360
PS3

Only one missing is my TV, for the sheer fluke that Panasonic are retarded and won't enable the app on 2011 sets for marketing reasons. We got AceTrax instead ... and that got acquired then closed down by Sky.

I'm getting both at launch, I know I'm going to have both during their respective lifetimes so I figured "screw it, get them both".

That way I can spend the next few months deciding which I prefer and then in the future I'll buy my favourite games on whichever console I like.

Being entirely honest here, I'm more excited for the Xbox One launch than the PS4 though - more games on the One excite me, and I actually like the idea of it being more than just a console. The PS4 doesn't seem like too much of a revolution in terms of gaming or anything other than performing better and games looking nicer.

Either way, super excited for both launches and can't wait. It's the first time that arguably since SNES/Megadrive we've been properly spoilt by two consoles.

This entire post sums up how I feel quite nicely :)

Me too.

Just buy both ! May not be at launch but when the right games comes along, then I will, whether it is uncharted or the next GTA.

Finally a sane post from somebody ;) Sums up exactly how I feel and the reason I'm buying both on release...if I hadn't pre-ordered I'd only have decided at the 11th hour I wanted them anyway and struggled to find them so why not pre-order them and be done with the aggravation :D

I really don't understand why people take sides...its a console, not a football team. You are allowed to have more than one you know!

I would buy the Xbone but Sony just have a better games catalogue for me. I feel sad a little but there's no way I'm going to buy both this time around. My PS3 has hardly had a look in except for those exclusives. And with the multiplats arguably performing better on PS4, I fear the Xbone would suffer the same fate this time around. I only use Freeview so I won't be able to use the TV features and Kinect is just too big for my cupboard (games room).

We polled over 26,000 IGN readers on Facebook asking them which next gen consoles and games they plan on owning in the coming years.

The irony is immense in that post!

Why can't you support multiple football teams? It's just as stupid as picking sides in a generation of consoles.

Well, of course you can, but look at the sports forum. For example, do you know anyone who support both Arsenal and Spurs? Or Liverpool and Everton, or Celtic and Rangers? or United and City?

You could pick teams that aren't rivals :), poor example.

Well, obviously.

The other obvious point is that Xbox 1 and PS4 are rivals, as can be seen in countless posts/threads and videos. I mean when was the last time you saw a video saying PS4 v Wii U, which should you buy? (and leave out the XB1 all together)

But unlike football, you can pick both and no one would say you can't. Doubt you would come out in one piece if you go into Celtic park wearing a Rangers shirt though.

You're forgetting the Wii U is Nintendo's next generation console :), so it's not a simple xbox One v PlayStation 4 'thing'.

There are plenty of people whom 'support' or 'follow' more than one football club as there are many people who enjoy different consoles.

The only people getting worked up are the fan boys, the crazy people, who exist in all different aspects of life.

I don't really see the point in arguing or fighting over it to be honest. What impact does this have on your life? very little.

Wii U isn't even on the radar, that's dead out of the water basically, but you can have all 3 if you like. You don't get the same rivalry with the Wii U and PS4...at least I've not seen it.

That wasn't the point anyway and I know someone would bring up the Wii U ! lol
