Hi Guys,
wondering if any of you have any ideas on my build problem. I have just received my order from ocuk
After not getting all my water cooling tubing in my initial order, had to wait another day for that to arrive (and never got the games I was told I'd get as part of the order). Then yesterday i found out the PSU was dead (I used the self test button at the back of the PSU and it just clicked, no activity). I ordered another one which arrived today and now I have got past that problem - the PSU self check works.
So after a day of making sure I have no leaks on my water cooling loop I unpack the mobo and start to assemble the PC. After plugging it all I notice that the motherboard has no power. When I plug the 24 pin PSU into the mobo the lights briefly flash on then immediately go out. Unplugging and replugging the cable in has the same effect, lights on mobo flick on then go out. Obviously power switch on PC won't do anything as mobo not getting power.
I have tried plugging in the 8 pin 12V cable into the motherboard as well, that makes no difference. My motherboard also has a 4 pin 12v atx socket but I thought I only needed to use the 8 pin one not both? My mobo is a gigabyte z87x-oc and my PSU is a corsair AX860i.
To try and isolate the problem I have unplugged everything from the mobo except the CPU and water block (since that was a real pain to attach). Plugging the cable in and taking it back out again has the same effect, lights flick on momentarily then go out. Made me think there was a short circuit somewhere so I took the mobo out of the case completely - I saw nothing that could have caused a short circuit. I then put the mobo onto a box and did the same test, plug and unplug the cable, same results, lights flick on then go off.
Does anyone have any more ideas? Do I need to find a way to plug in both the 4 pin and the 8 pin 12v atx sockets on the mobo? Or is the mobo also dead?
Turning out to be a good order so far this one. Missing items, dead PSU and now maybe dead mobo too. And I haven't even tested the RAM, CPU or graphics card yet
