Buying New car...ahhhhhh

Don't fall into the small engine = cheap insurance/big engine = expensive insurance trap. It's only a very loose generalisation, which I've found is usually not true at all.

Example: I am currently driving a 2.3L petrol Mazda 6 which was 30%+ cheaper to insure than an otherwise identical 1.8L (and the results were very similar over the whole variety of cars I looked at)

Same situation here too.

I can insure a 2.0 Mondeo for near on half the price it would cost to insure a 1.6 Civic!!

It's always worth running a few quotes to get an idea on cost. It's also extremely quick these days with price comparison sites, just sign up and save your details. Then all you need to do is enter the registration plate from the for sale advert of the car you fancy.

A 3L BMW Z4 costs around the same as a 2L 150bhp Honda Accord to insure about £1k, which is actually very cheap for a 21 Year old.

What it looks to me is more popular and more affordable cars within a age group seem to get the higher premiums, and postcode's aswell.
